STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE & MANAGEMENT (CONTINUED)

Policies and Objectives

The charitable objectives of the CIO are to relieve financial hardship, distress, and suffering among disadvantaged individuals worldwide — including the poor, widows, orphans, and those affected by natural disasters or other crises. This is achieved primarily through grants that provide or cover the cost of essential items, equipment, services, and facilities. These include, but are not limited to, food, clean water, clothing, medical treatment, shelter, and school-related expenses. The Trustees are committed to ensuring that the Charity’s work meets the public benefit requirement and confirms that all objectives have been developed in line with guidance from the Charity Commission. Our strategic geographical focus continues to be Eastern Asia, Western Asia, Africa, and the UK.

Our Vision

“Where your generosity builds a hopeful future”. We work independently as well as in partnership with other charities and local organizations that specialise in humanitarian aid work at local and international levels. We are passionate and keen to serve humanity without distinguishing between race, religion, gender or background.

Our Mission

We aim to make an immediate and lasting improvement to the lives of people affected by poverty, war and natural disasters. In this mission, our work for the alleviation of poverty is carried out through selectively chosen activities:

Education: by improving access to learning; Healthcare: by improving access to quality of healthcare; Livelihoods: promoting income generation at household level to improve economic wellbeing; Emergency relief: provision of food, water, medicines and shelter in times of crisis; Qurbani and Aqeeqah: helping people celebrate these festivals; Widows & Orphans: improving their welfare; Water & Sanitation: improving access to clean water and improve sanitation.

Our Values

Equality Respect: We affirm the dignity, potential and contribution of participants, donors, partners, staff and volunteers. Integrity: We act consistently with our mission, being honest and transparent in what we say and do. Partnerships: We work together effectively to serve the larger community. Quality: We constantly challenge ourselves to the highest levels of learning and performance to achieve greater impact. We believe the lives of all human beings are of equal value.

4

Our Team of Volunteers

All of the charity’s activities are made possible through the active involvement of our trustees and dedicated volunteers, who play a vital role in delivering Akram Aid’s mission. From planning and coordination to on-the-ground distribution, their tireless efforts are at the heart of everything we do.

Whether it’s providing emergency aid, supporting long-term development projects, or engaging with local communities, our

trustees and volunteers ensure that every initiative is carried out with care, integrity, and impact.

As always, we are deeply grateful to each and every one of them. Their commitment, compassion, and generosity of time and spirit enable us to reach those in need—locally and across the globe.

Achievements and performance

Upon review of the CIO’s activities, it is noted that our income is primarily generated through public donations. The Trustees oversee the day-to-day management of both financial and operational matters, ensuring that all activities align with the charity’s objectives and legal responsibilities. Throughout the reporting period, Akram Aid successfully implemented a range of projects, working closely with volunteers and partner organisations to deliver vital aid to communities in need across various regions of the world.

Outlined below are the key projects carried out during this period:

Emergency Appeals

Our Emergency appeals during the reporting period focused on supporting refugees and providing urgent aid to those affected in Gaza, Pakistan, Syria and Yemen. Through these appeals, we delivered essential emergency relief including food packs, hot meals, clean water, medication, winter parcels with essentials - targeting the most vulnerable communities.

These efforts were guided by immediate needs on the ground, where our team of volunteers identified and vetted the demand for basic necessities to help families survive during times of crisis.

5

Ramadan

The holy month of Ramadan is a time of fasting, reflection, and generosity for Muslims around the world. It’s also a season of increased charitable giving. As millions fast from dawn to sunset, it’s vital they have access to nutritious meals to break their fast. Akram Aid delivered essential food supplies to families in some of the most vulnerable communities across Africa, Eastern Asia, and Western Asia, ensuring that those in need could observe Ramadan with dignity and nourishment.

Gambia

Throughout the year we have completed the construction of 2 water wells for the community in destitute villages, built 2 Masjids, distributed hot meals and Qurbani meat during Eid, to the poor and most needy in various villages.

Pakistan

We distributed food parcels containing essentials like rice, oil, flour, and soap including blankets for vulnerable households. Pop-up clinics run by qualified professionals provided medical care, while 7 water pumps and 3 tube wells were built in rural areas. During Eid, Qurbani meat and 50 children’s gifts were distributed to support and uplift local communities. Multiple sponsors committed to supporting 14 widow / needy families with ongoing monthly financial aid.

Palestine

Aid to Gaza in 2024 was severely hampered by ongoing conflict, border restrictions, destroyed infrastructure, limited access to supplies, communication blackouts and power outages. With overwhelming humanitarian needs, which far exceeded available resources, we continued to carry urgent humanitarian relief with a partner charity and delivered Hot Food distributions, Zakat and financial aid.

Rohingya

The Rohingya community, displaced and living in overcrowded refugee camps, faces unimaginable hardships, including a severe lack of access to clean, safe drinking water. With your help, through our Rohingya Water Pump Project we have we have installed 20 water pumps and 5 deep tube wells for the refugee camps and surrounding communities. Sponsors also support 3 widow / needy families with ongoing monthly financial aid.

6

Syria

Hot meals were distributed, offering vital support to families affected by years of conflict and displacement, especially in camps and impoverished neighbourhoods, ensuring that families had access to freshly cooked, nutritious food. Zakat funds were carefully allocated to assist the most vulnerable and helping them meet essential needs such as food, shelter, and medical care.

United Kingdom

Akram Aid is proud to support Chapters Foodbank through the dedication of volunteers and the generosity of the community.

Chapters Foodbank is open to everyone and serves as a vital resource for individuals and families in need via direct donations from the public, local sponsors, as well as food provisions purchased using monetary contributions.

In collaboration with the Serving Humanity Foundation, Akram Aid also provides a free weekly Advisory Service. This initiative offers tailored support, practical guidance, form filling and sign posting to both food bank users and members of the wider community.

Yemen

During Ramadan, aid was delivered through Zakat contributions and the distribution of hot meals to support the most vulnerable, including widows, orphans, and the elderly. Iftar in the form of hot meals, ensured families facing severe food shortages receive nutritious, cooked food daily. These efforts offered crucial relief and hope during the holy month, helping people endure ongoing conflict and hardship.

Youth Activities

Akram Aid launched a youth initiative to deliver free activities for the local community. This included football sessions at the local park, as well as regular indoor activities such as table tennis, pool, foosball, and gaming at a nearby community centre. The programme aimed to provide young people with a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment.

Unfortunately, the activities were placed on hold due to volunteer commitments to fulltime work and elsewhere, together with ongoing weather challenges. Despite the pause, the initiative had a positive impact and demonstrated the need for continued youth engagement in the area. We are currently exploring options for resuming the programme and remain fully committed to restarting these valuable sessions in the very near future.

7

Administration

The charity is controlled by its governing document, a constitution and is registered with the Charity Commission as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. Everything our charity does is underpinned by due diligence and risk management from checking countries in which it works in, organisations, individuals that are worked with and work in the field and always considering the reputation of the charity.

We operate on a 100% Donation Policy. All our work is carried out by experienced and dedicated volunteers. We work alongside other charities that share the same Vision and Ethos. Akram Aid covers the Administration, running and related costs through: Gift aid reclaimed from HMRC Donations received specifically for running costs. Money earned from donations of items / charity sales / auctions.

Message from Trustees

Dear Akram Aid Family — our donors, volunteers, supporters, and friends,

After first thanking the Almighty for granting us the opportunity to help make a difference. It has been a challenging year as we lost 3 Trustees due to personal reasons, however we continue to serve humanity. I’m honoured to share an update on Akram Aid’s progress throughout 2024.

Thanks to your continued support and generosity, we’ve been able to make a meaningful impact on the lives of many—both locally and across the globe. To our donors, supporters, delivery partners, local and national businesses (including those who wish to remain anonymous), our dedicated volunteers, and my incredible team—thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your compassion and commitment are the driving force behind everything we do. As we look ahead, we ask for your continued support—through donations, time, and spreading the word—so we can keep serving those in need with dignity and care.

With sincere gratitude, Sohail Founder, Akram Aid

TRUSTEES REPORT

Akram Aid returned a very satisfactory surplus of £19,088 in the financial year compared to a surplus of £7,546 in the previous year. This great result was principally achieved thanks to the generosity of individuals and organizations through donations. We hope that more people will consider benefitting the charity in this way so that our long-term future can be secured.

Income for the year was £44,869 (2023: £46,714)

Expenditure was correspondingly £25,781 (2023: £39,168)

The Trustees are grateful for the service and dedication of the whole team which often extends beyond their contractual commitments. Our volunteers also play a significant role in the successful operation of the charity and whilst there is no cost associated with their work, we would not be able to function without their dedicated assistance.

Bank balances continue in a strong position showing a total of £32,565 compared to £13,477 in the previous year. This healthy position has been arrived at due to donations received during the year. The Trustees regularly discuss the best way to hold funds not required for immediate use but are conscious of the risks inherent in other forms of investment and the current economic uncertainty due to external factors. For the time being the decision has been taken to retain our reserves in bank deposits and professional advice will be required as when this policy changes.

Reserves are needed to bridge the gap between spending and receiving of resources and to cover unplanned emergencies. At 31 December 2024 our total reserves amounted to £31,564 (2023: £12,477) which is a strong position and is the result of an increasing number of donations being received. We have resolved to designate funds to various projects that will meet the aims of the charity and strengthen our position for the future. These projects and the related designated funds are set out in Note 3 to the Balance Sheet.

Our reserves, which are detailed on the Balance Sheet, now comprise:

Restricted funds of £20,970 which represent funding received for specific projects.

Unrestricted funds now amount to £4,595 and the Trustees are considering how best to utilize these funds for the long-term benefit of the Charity.

The Charity Commission recommends that, in order to ensure ongoing viability, a charity should hold between 9 and 15 months of total running costs. Akram Aid’s monthly running costs are now approximately £500 and, on this basis, we should be holding between £4,500 and £7,500. We have therefore decided to include within Designated Funds a Safety Reserve of £6,000 in accordance with the Charity Commission recommendation.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2024

1. ACCOUNTINGPOLICIES

(a) Basis of preparing the financial statements

The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention, with the exception of investments which are included at fair value.

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued in October 2019 and the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Charities Act 2011 and UK Generally Accepted Practice as it applies from 1 January 2019.

Fund’s structure

Where there is a legal restriction on the purpose to which a fund may be put, the fund is classified either as:

Restricted funds are those where the donor has provided for the donation to be spent in furtherance of a specified charitable purpose. Akram Aid’s restricted funds tend to result from appeals for specified purposes.

Endowment funds arise when the donor has expressly provided that the gift is to be invested in and only the income of the fund may be spent. These funds are sub analysed between those where the trustee has the discretion to spend the capital (expendable endowment) and those where there is no discretion to expend the capital (permanent endowment).

The trustee decides each year how much of that return is released to income for spending and how much is retained for investment. The allocation is made on an equitable basis to balance the need to fund current projects as well as to invest returns for the future.

Those funds which are neither endowment nor restricted income funds, are unrestricted income funds which are sub analysed between designated (earmarked) funds where the trustee has set aside amounts to be used for specific purposes or which reflect the non-binding wishes of donors and unrestricted funds which are at the trustee’s discretion, including the general fund which represents the charity’s reserves.

(b) Income resources

All incoming resources are recognised once the charity has entitlement to the resources, it is probable (more likely than not) that the resources will be received, and the monetary value of incoming resources can be measured with sufficient reliability. Where there are terms or conditions attached to incoming resources, particularly grants, then these terms or conditions must be met before the income is recognised as the entitlement condition will not be satisfied until that point. Where terms or conditions have not been met or uncertainty exists as to whether they can be met then the relevant income is not recognised in the year but deferred and shown on the balance sheet as deferred income.
