PLAISTOW CHURCH OF CHRIST

## **Aim and Purposes**

The Plaistow Church of Christ (PCOC) is dedicated to advancing the Christian faith in London and the Newham community. Our mission is to support the spiritual growth of our members through pastoral care, evangelism, and fostering a deeper connection with God.

## **Objectives and Activities**

PCOC strives to create an environment where anyone can worship and learn about Christian faith and the Holy Bible. We uphold high standards of worship and regularly review and implement recommendations to expand our services and activities. Our worship services put faith into practice through prayer, bible study, scripture reading, music, and baptism.

In planning our activities, we follow the Commission's guidance on public benefit and specific guidance on charities for the advancement of religion. We enable ordinary people to live out their faith as part of the church in the community by providing opportunities for worship, bible study, prayer, pastoral care, and missionary and outreach work. Evangelism is a crucial part of our mission, and we seek to share the message of Christ's love with those around us through various outreach programs.

## **Expenses**

To carry out these vital activities, it is essential that we have sufficient funds to cover the operational costs of the church. These expenses include rent, utilities, and other churchrelated needs, ensuring that our ministry continues to function effectively. In 2024, we incurred a total of £13,323.79 in day-to-day expenses. This amount covered essential costs such as rent, utilities, love gifts, and evangelism efforts.

Our evangelism efforts included outreach programs and events designed to spread the message of Christ's love to the wider community. These initiatives are central to our mission, allowing us to engage with those outside our congregation, extend our support to the local community, and offer spiritual guidance to those seeking it. By maintaining a wellsupported church, we can create a welcoming and spiritually enriching environment where our members can grow in faith and fellowship, and where we can continue to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others.

## **Tithes/Offerings**

We are grateful to our members for their continued support through tithes. In the year 2024, we received a total of £14,453. in tithes. Tithing is a biblical practice where believers give a tenth of their income to support the work of the church. It is a way to demonstrate our faith and trust in God's provision and to support the mission of the church. We appreciate the sacrificial giving of our members and their commitment to the work of the church.

## **Achievements & Performance**

The Plaistow Church of Christ (PCOC) experienced a truly meaningful and spiritually enriching year in 2024. Throughout the year, we held a variety of activities designed to deepen the faith of our congregation and extend our outreach to the wider community. Guided by our mission to share the love and message of Christ, we celebrated key milestones, carried out impactful outreach programs, and launched initiatives that united our members and strengthened our connection with the local community.

## 1. Planning Meeting (January 2024)

In January, the church leaders and ministry committees came together for a planning and visioning day to prepare for the year ahead. It was a fruitful and inspiring gathering where everyone shared ideas, discussed upcoming goals, and aligned on the activities that would guide the church throughout 2024. The meeting was filled with energy, collaboration, and a shared sense of purpose as each ministry presented their plans to strengthen fellowship, outreach, and spiritual growth. It truly set a positive tone for the rest of the year.

## 2. Easter Celebration (March 2024)

In April, we joyfully celebrated Easter — one of the most sacred and meaningful occasions in the Christian faith. Throughout Holy Week, the church held a series of heartfelt activities and worship services that prepared our hearts for the celebration of Christ’s resurrection. Easter Sunday was a vibrant and uplifting gathering, filled with worship, fellowship, and the spirit of renewal. It was a special time that strengthened the faith of our members and opened doors for new friends from the community to experience God’s love. Our youth and children added a beautiful touch to the celebration by sharing their talents, filling the day with energy, creativity, and joy.

## 3. Anniversary Celebration (May 2024)

In May, PCOC joyfully celebrated its anniversary — a meaningful milestone marked by special worship services, heartfelt reflections, and fellowship with the community. The occasion brought together long-standing members and newcomers, strengthening our sense of unity and shared purpose. It was a wonderful opportunity to look back on our journey as a church, give thanks for God’s faithfulness, and renew our commitment to the mission that continues to guide us.

Following the worship service, everyone joined together for a shared lunch and lively games, creating a warm and festive atmosphere enjoyed by all. During this time, we also launched preparations for our 2024 Church Camp, a much-anticipated event held every two years. To support the camp, we introduced a range of church memorabilia, which not only helped raise funds but also served as a meaningful reminder of our shared faith and fellowship.

## 4. Church Camp – Aug 2024

The church once again held its much-anticipated annual camp, a cherished tradition filled with meaningful activities, fellowship, and spiritual growth. The event was thoughtfully organised and led by our pastors together with the event committee, who worked tirelessly to ensure every moment was both enriching and enjoyable.

Throughout the camp, participants engaged in a variety of activities designed to strengthen faith, build unity, and deepen relationships among members. Mornings were dedicated to devotion and group reflections, while afternoons were filled with team-building games, workshops, and interactive learning sessions that encouraged everyone to live out Christian values in daily life. Evenings were marked by uplifting worship, heartfelt testimonies, and shared moments of prayer under the open sky.

The highlight of the camp came at its conclusion, when five individuals joyfully accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour and were baptised. It was a deeply moving and unforgettable moment for the entire congregation — a powerful reminder of God’s grace and the true purpose of our fellowship.

The camp truly provided a refreshing and transformative experience for all — a time to reconnect with God, bond as one church family, and return home renewed in spirit, faith, and purpose.5.

## 5. Familympics – Sept. 2024

This year, PCOC once again held its much-loved Familympics, an event dedicated to promoting wellness, unity, and fun within the church community. The day was filled with laughter and excitement as families came together to participate in a variety of activities that encouraged both physical fitness and fellowship.

A special highlight of the event was the introduction of traditional Filipino games, which added a rich cultural touch and brought a sense of nostalgia and joy to many. From the elderly to the youngest children, everyone joined in the festivities with enthusiasm and team spirit. The Familympics truly embodied the essence of togetherness — celebrating not only healthy living but also the deep bonds that tie our church family together.

led worship services, mentorship sessions, interactive workshops, and meaningful outreach initiatives that encouraged them to live out their faith in action.

The highlight of the celebration was the Youth Sunday Service, where our young leaders took centre stage—leading worship, sharing their testimonies, and demonstrating their growing leadership within the church. It was a truly inspiring moment that reflected the future of our congregation in capable and faithful hands.

To further support their spiritual growth, our pastor dedicated a special day exclusively for youth fellowship and learning. This gathering provided a safe space for open discussions, guidance, and encouragement, helping the youth strengthen their relationship with God and one another.

## 7. Thanksgiving Celebration (November 2024)

In November, PCOC came together for its annual Thanksgiving celebration, a time to reflect on and give thanks for God’s abundant blessings throughout the year. ## 6. Christmas Celebration (December 2023)

Once again, the church congregation joyfully celebrated Christmas, a season that reminds us of God’s greatest gift — the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. This year’s celebration was filled with warmth, gratitude, and purpose, as the church focused on extending love and blessings to five selected families and individuals from the community. Each was gifted a Bible, Christmas treats and uplifted in prayer, with the hope that they would come to know God more deeply and experience His transforming grace.

The Christmas service was a beautiful expression of faith and unity, filled with joyful singing, heartfelt worship, and inspiring messages that reminded everyone of the true meaning of the season. After the service, the congregation gathered for a festive lunch, sharing food, laughter, and fellowship as one family in Christ. The day was a wonderful reflection of God’s love in action — a celebration not just of the birth of Jesus, but of the spirit of giving, compassion, and community that defines PCOC.

## **Overall Performance and Impact**

Throughout 2024, the Plaistow Church of Christ (PCOC) has been richly blessed with a year of transformation, growth, and renewed purpose. Each month reflected God’s hand at work — guiding our congregation through meaningful worship, joyful celebrations, and impactful outreach. From the planning session in January that set a united vision for the year, to the heartfelt Christmas celebration in December, every activity served to strengthen our faith, deepen our fellowship, and extend God’s love beyond the walls of our church.

Our diverse programs — including the Easter and Anniversary celebrations, the Familympics, Youth Month, and the Annual Church Camp — have created countless opportunities for spiritual enrichment and community connection. These events not only inspired greater participation among members but also drew in new families and individuals from the wider Plaistow community. Through shared worship, fellowship meals, games, and outreach efforts, the church has continued to live out its mission of bringing people closer to Christ in both faith and action.

This year, we also witnessed remarkable moments of renewal — five individuals publicly declared their faith through baptism during our church camp, symbolising the life-changing impact of God’s word and our shared ministry. Our youth demonstrated leadership and passion through their dedicated month of service and learning, while our outreach initiatives touched the lives of those in need through prayer, giving, and encouragement.
