PLAISTOW CHURCH OF CHRIST

Aim and Purposes

The Plaistow Church of Christ (PCOC) is dedicated to advancing the Christian faith in London and the Newham community. Our mission is to support the spiritual growth of our members through pastoral care, evangelism, and fostering a deeper connection with God.

Objectives and Activities

PCOC strives to create an environment where anyone can worship and learn about Christian faith and the Holy Bible. We uphold high standards of worship and regularly review and implement recommendations to expand our services and activities. Our worship services put faith into practice through prayer, bible study, scripture reading, music, and baptism.

In planning our activities, we follow the Commission's guidance on public benefit and specific guidance on charities for the advancement of religion. We enable ordinary people to live out their faith as part of the church in the community by providing opportunities for worship, bible study, prayer, pastoral care, and missionary and outreach work. Evangelism is a crucial part of our mission, and we seek to share the message of Christ's love with those around us through various outreach programs.

Expenses

To carry out these vital activities, it is essential that we have sufficient funds to cover the operational costs of the church. These expenses include rent, utilities, and other churchrelated needs, ensuring that our ministry continues to function effectively. In 2023, we incurred a total of £8,273.53 in day-to-day expenses. This amount covered essential costs such as rent, utilities, love gifts, and evangelism efforts.

Our evangelism efforts included outreach programs and events designed to spread the message of Christ's love to the wider community. These initiatives are central to our mission, allowing us to engage with those outside our congregation, extend our support to the local community, and offer spiritual guidance to those seeking it. By maintaining a wellsupported church, we can create a welcoming and spiritually enriching environment where our members can grow in faith and fellowship, and where we can continue to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others.

Tithes

We are grateful to our members for their continued support through tithes. In the year 2023, we received a total of £11,683. in tithes. Tithing is a biblical practice where believers give a tenth of their income to support the work of the church. It is a way to demonstrate our faith and trust in God's provision and to support the mission of the church. We appreciate the sacrificial giving of our members and their commitment to the work of the church.

Achievements & Performance

The Plaistow Church of Christ (PCOC) has had an eventful and spiritually enriching year in 2023, marked by various activities aimed at deepening the faith of our congregation and reaching out to the wider community. Our mission to spread the love and message of Christ has been fulfilled through key celebrations, outreach programs, and initiatives that have brought our members closer together and strengthened our relationship with the local community.

Key Activities and Achievements

1. Easter Celebration (April 2023)

In April, we celebrated Easter, one of the most significant events in the Christian calendar. The Easter services were well attended, and the church hosted a series of meaningful events throughout Holy Week, including special worship services and a joyous Easter Sunday celebration. This time together fostered spiritual renewal among our members and provided a wonderful opportunity to share the message of Christ’s resurrection with new attendees from the surrounding community. As always, our youth and children were encouraged to showcase their talents, bringing life and joy to the Easter Sunday celebrations.

2. Anniversary Celebration (May 2023)

In May, PCOC proudly celebrated its anniversary—a milestone honored with special worship services, community gatherings, and reflections on the church’s rich history and growth over the years. This event brought together long-time members and newcomers alike, reaffirming our commitment to unity within the congregation. The celebration offered a moment to reflect on our journey as a church and to renew our dedication to our mission.

After the worship service, everyone gathered for a shared lunch and fun games, creating a joyful experience that was enjoyed by all members and guests.

3. Familympics (September 2023)

September saw the launch of our Familympics event, a fun-filled family day that encouraged physical activity, teamwork, and fellowship. Families from the congregation and the local community participated in a series of sports and games designed to strengthen family bonds and promote healthy, active living. This event successfully fostered a sense of community while emphasizing the importance of family values within the Christian faith. Familympics was a great success, bringing together over 20 families in a day of fun, fellowship, and friendly competition.

4. Youth Month (October 2023)

October was dedicated to our young members through the celebration of Youth Month. Throughout the month, the church hosted various activities geared towards empowering and inspiring the youth in their faith journey. This included youth-led services, mentorship programs, workshops, and outreach initiatives. The highlight of the month was the Youth Sunday Service, where young leaders were given the platform to share their talents, testimonies, and leadership skills with the congregation. This initiative has had a lasting impact on our young members, encouraging their active involvement in the church’s future.

5. Thanksgiving Celebration (November 2023)

In November, PCOC held its annual Thanksgiving celebration, bringing the congregation together in heartfelt gratitude for the many blessings of the year. The Thanksgiving service featured special prayers, worship, and testimonies, allowing members to express their thankfulness for God’s provision and protection. Following the service, everyone joined for a Thanksgiving lunch, followed by joyful worship through song, creating a warm and uplifting atmosphere for all.

6. Christmas Giving Outreach (December 2023)

Once again, the church has sought to bless the local community by offering something to brighten their lives. With joy and dedication, the church has delivered 100 bags filled with essential household goods to the Plaistow community. Members experienced both

fulfilment and fun as they gathered, packed, and prepared the goods for the households eager to receive them.

Additionally, a student from India reached out to the church in search of a place to worship and a supportive community as he begins his journey as a Master’s student in a foreign country. He found exactly what he was looking for and has now become a valued member of the PCOC church family.

Overall Performance and Impact

Throughout 2023, the Plaistow Church of Christ (PCOC) has experienced a transformative year filled with growth, community engagement, and spiritual enrichment. Our diverse events and activities have not only strengthened the spiritual foundation of our congregation but have also allowed us to deepen our connections within the Plaistow community. From weekly services and special worship gatherings to outreach initiatives and community support programs, our church’s efforts have inspired increased participation, created a strong sense of fellowship among our members, and positively impacted the lives of hundreds in the area.

This year, PCOC has witnessed remarkable achievements, including successful outreach programs that have brought comfort and support to families, new faith-based events that welcomed individuals seeking hope and connection, and youth and children’s activities that nurtured a sense of belonging and creativity among our younger members. Each program, service, and gathering has contributed to building a community rooted in love, compassion, and mutual support—a true reflection of Christ’s teachings.

As we move forward into the remaining months of 2023, our commitment to our mission remains steadfast. We aim to keep spreading Christ’s love, providing spiritual growth opportunities, and serving as a pillar of support for both our members and the broader community. Looking ahead, we’re excited for the continued support and active involvement of our members. Together, we will work to further PCOC’s mission, ensuring our church remains a beacon of hope, faith, and fellowship for years to come.
