PLAISTOW CHURCH OF CHRIST
Aim and Purposes
The Plaistow Church of Christ (PCOC) is dedicated to advancing the Christian faith in London and the Newham community. Our mission is to support the spiritual growth of our members through pastoral care, evangelism, and fostering a deeper connection with God.
Objectives and Activities
PCOC strives to create an environment where anyone can worship and learn about Christian faith and the Holy Bible. We uphold high standards of worship and regularly review and implement recommendations to expand our services and activities. Our worship services put faith into practice through prayer, bible study, scripture reading, music, and baptism.
In planning our activities, we follow the Commission's guidance on public benefit and specific guidance on charities for the advancement of religion. We enable ordinary people to live out their faith as part of the church in the community by providing opportunities for worship, bible study, prayer, pastoral care, and missionary and outreach work. Evangelism is a crucial part of our mission, and we seek to share the message of Christ's love with those around us through various outreach programs.
Expenses
To carry out these vital activities, it is essential that we have sufficient funds to cover the operational costs of the church. These expenses include rent, utilities, and other churchrelated needs, ensuring that our ministry continues to function effectively. In 2022, we incurred a total of £8,933.24 in day-to-day expenses. This amount covered essential costs such as rent, utilities, love gifts, and evangelism efforts.
Our evangelism efforts included outreach programs and events designed to spread the message of Christ's love to the wider community. These initiatives are central to our mission, allowing us to engage with those outside our congregation, extend our support to the local community, and offer spiritual guidance to those seeking it. By maintaining a wellsupported church, we can create a welcoming and spiritually enriching environment where our members can grow in faith and fellowship, and where we can continue to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others.

Tithes
We are grateful to our members for their continued support through tithes. In the year 2022-2023, we received a total of £11,109 in tithes. Tithing is a biblical practice where believers give a tenth of their income to support the work of the church. It is a way to demonstrate our faith and trust in God's provision and to support the mission of the church. We appreciate the sacrificial giving of our members and their commitment to the work of the church.
Achievements & Performance
The Plaistow Church of Christ (PCOC) has had an eventful and spiritually enriching year in 2022-2023, marked by various activities aimed at deepening the faith of our congregation and reaching out to the wider community. Our mission to spread the love and message of Christ has been fulfilled through key celebrations, outreach programs, and initiatives that have brought our members closer together and strengthened our relationship with the local community.
Key Activities and Achievements
1. Easter Celebration (April 2022)
In April, we celebrated Easter, which continues to be one of the most significant events in the Christian calendar. The Easter services were well attended, and the church organized a series of events throughout Holy Week, including special worship services, and an Easter Sunday celebration. This event helped foster spiritual renewal among our members, and allowed us to share the message of Christ’s resurrection with new attendees from the surrounding community.
2. Anniversary Celebration (May 2022)
In May, PCOC proudly celebrated its anniversary. This milestone was marked with special worship services, community gatherings, and a reflection on the church’s history and growth over the years. The event brought together not only long-time members but also welcomed newcomers, reaffirming our commitment to fostering unity within the congregation. Through this celebration, we reflected on our journey as a church and renewed our dedication to continuing our mission.

3. Familympics (September 2022)
September saw the launch of our Familympics event, a fun-filled family day that encouraged physical activity, teamwork, and fellowship. Families from the congregation and the local community participated in a series of sports and games designed to strengthen family bonds and promote healthy, active living. This event successfully fostered a sense of community while emphasizing the importance of family values within the Christian faith. Familympics was a great success, bringing together over 20 families in a day of fun, fellowship, and friendly competition.
4. Youth Month (October 2022)
October was dedicated to our young members through the celebration of Youth Month. Throughout the month, the church hosted various activities geared towards empowering and inspiring the youth in their faith journey. This included youth-led services, mentorship programs, workshops, and outreach initiatives. The highlight of the month was the Youth Sunday Service, where young leaders were given the platform to share their talents, testimonies, and leadership skills with the congregation. This initiative has had a lasting impact on our young members, encouraging their active involvement in the church’s future.
5. Thanksgiving Celebration (November 2022)
In November, PCOC held its annual Thanksgiving celebration, a time for the congregation to come together in gratitude for the many blessings of the year. The Thanksgiving service featured special prayers, worship, and testimonies, where members expressed their thankfulness for God’s provision and protection.
6. Christmas Giving Outreach (December 2022)
December marked a significant outreach effort, where the church embarked on its Christmas giving initiative. We reached out to 100 families in Plaistow, providing gifts and essential items to those in need. This act of generosity brought hope and joy to families who otherwise may not have had the means to celebrate the season. Through this program, we strengthened our connection with the local community, reflecting Christ's love in action during the Christmas season.

7. Planning and Strategic Initiatives (March 2023)*
In March, the church leadership and key members came together for a planning session to outline our strategic goals and activities for 2023. This planning meeting was critical in ensuring that we had a clear vision for the year ahead and that resources were allocated effectively for each initiative. Through this process, we were able to map out the year’s events, ensuring that each activity aligned with our mission and vision of spreading the gospel and building a strong, spiritually empowered congregation.
Overall Performance and Impact
The various events and activities throughout 2022 have not only strengthened the spiritual foundation of our congregation but also deepened our engagement with the community. Our efforts have led to increased participation in church services, a stronger sense of fellowship among members, and successful outreach programs that have positively impacted hundreds of lives in the Plaistow area.
2022 and part of 2023 was a year of growth, achievement, and impact for the Plaistow Church of Christ. Through our dedication to serving both our members and the broader community, we have fostered a stronger, more connected church. As we move into the rest of 2023, we remain committed to advancing our mission of spreading the love of Christ and nurturing spiritual growth in all that we do.
We look forward to the continued support and involvement of our members as we work together to further the mission of PCOC in the year ahead.
