Village Schools of Sierra Leone (VSSL) charity number 1195387
VSSL helped to build and continues to help run 10 schools in rural Sierra Leone.
All work and funds are dealt with and managed by our partner charity registered in Sierra Leone. Our partner is also called Village Schools of Sierra Leone and is formally registered as a charity in Sierra Leone. The trustees of this Sierra Leonean charity are also trustees or members of the UK charity.
Detailed policies have been agreed between the Sierra Leonean charity and the communities with which we work in rural Sierra Leone. These policies include:
-
how money will be paid and the mechanism by which a report is produced showing use of all monies;
-
monitoring procedures for performance of the schools and the standard of education being provided;
-
how vulnerable children, who are unable to access our schools, can be supported so that they can attend school;
Funds are paid to provide resources to the schools such as books, printed documents, uniforms and teachers’ salaries.
The charity also provides ongoing training for teachers in order to ensure a high standard of education is delivered to the pupils.
The work in schools is supplemented by work in the communities such as adult literacy classes.
Monthly audits of the standards of education being provided is undertaken monthly by the Sierra Leonean Charity.
Please note that all administrative costs are covered by members of the charity in the UK.
The charity expense in supporting the running of the schools is fairly predictable. Please note that the charity did not have a bank account at this time and did not raise funds other than donations from friends and family of the members of the charity.
