Objectives and Activities
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document |
Para 1.17 | The object of the CIO is: for the public benefit to promote social inclusion among young people aged between 18 and 25 who are socially excluded from society as a result of their status within or experience of the public care system in particular but not exclusively by the provision events, activities and experiences during the christmas period. For the purposes of this clause ‘socially excluded’ means being excluded from society, or parts of society, as a result of an individual’s status within or experience of the public care system and the resulting factors: unemployment; financial hardship; youth, ill health (physical or mental); substance abuse or dependency including alcohol and drugs; discrimination on the grounds of sex, race, disability, ethnic origin, religion, belief, creed, sexual orientation or gender re-assignment; poor educational or skills attainment; relationship and family breakdown; poor housing (that is housing that does not meet basic habitable standards); crime (either as a victim of crime or as an offender rehabilitating into society). |
| Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts. |
Para 1.17 and 1.19 |
South London Christmas Dinner is organised by a team of volunteers who work together to provide a special and fun-filled Christmas day, along with a most scrumptious dinner for young care leavers, aged between 18 and 25. As well as a Christmas dinner, guests are gifted presents and treats along theway. |

Para 1.18 | The trustees have paid due regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. |
| Contribution made by volunteers |
Para 1.38 | South London Christmas Dinner is only possible due to the hard work and huge contribution of the volunteers who give their time to make the Christmas Dinner a success. |
Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | SLXD became a CIO in July 2021, the volunteers having come together to host a Christmas Dinner for Care Leavers during Christmas 2020. We were not able to host an in-person event due to Covid lockdown restrictions which again thwarted an in-person event for Christmas 2021. Instead SLXD hosted an online event both years that were well attended. In 2021 SLXD also ran a dinner in Ealing. We were able to deliver 20 Christmas meals in South London and 13 in Ealing. SLXD and Ealing also delivered gifts, food hampers, handmade quilts, hand knitted items and gift vouchers to over 40 young, care experienced people in 2021, increasing our reach from 34 young people in 2020. |
| Financial Review | ||
| Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period |
Para 1.21 | SLXD started with £3,133 left over from Christmas 2020. During the year a further £16,020 was raised with £12,360 spent on gifts, food hampers, Christmas dinner and minimal running costs. We finished the year with a balance of £6,793 split between Ealing-£3,622and South London -£3,171. |
| Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held |
Para 1.22 | SLXD holds reserves simply to ensure there are enough funds to host a Dinner in the following year. There are no paid staff or ongoing lease commitments so there is no need to hold funds in reserve to cover these costs, however the Trustees feel it is prudent to have some funds to give confidence of continuity. |
| Amount of reserves held | Para 1.22 | Unrestricted funds of £6,793 |
| Reasons for holding zero reserves |
Para 1.22 | |
| Details of fund materially in deficit |
Para 1.24 | |
| Explanation of any uncertainties about the charity continuing as a going concern |
Para 1.23 | The Trustees are confident the CIO has enough funds to ensure continuity as a going concern. |
| The charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising) |
Para 1.47 | All funds are raised from public donations and fundraising activities. |
