## **Structure, governance and management**

## **Governing document**

The charity is controlled by its governing document, based on the Charity Commission's Foundation Model for a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).

## **Objectives and activities**

The charity is for the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of animals in need of care and attention. In particular to offer shelter or sanctuary for animals which are in need of medical attention, provide medical treatment for animals, actively seek new homes for “ rescued ” animals.

Our Mission is to offer sanctuary to ill-treated, neglected and unwanted animals, whilst promoting compassion and the humane treatment of animals.

## **Achievements and performance**

## **Charitable activities**

Since the foundation of the charity in July 2021, Pear Tree Farm Animal Sanctuary has grown both in size and amount of rescue and rehoming work undertaken.

Since the sanctuary began in December of 2018, we have rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed 7,565 animals in need (current number at time of writing 19.11.25). This financial year, 24/25, our intake numbers were around 160 individual animals. We successfully rehomed around 150 animals.

This year we have again increased our team of volunteers, and we now work with around 35 regular or ad-hoc helpers. To date we have had around 100 different individuals work with us since our formation. We continue to work with people-focused organisations, in particular Compass Provision - an alternative provisions organisation who work with disadvantaged young people offering education opportunities through volunteer work at the Sanctuary.

## **Financial review**

## **Financial position**

The trustees consider that the development of funding avenues to the charity need to be improved and increased, to provide better financial security for the charity, settle the debts that the Sanctuary owe, and increase the opportunity for charitable activities.

## **Principal funding sources**

Since the formation of the charity, the primary source of funding has been through supporter donations, plus occasional grants from other bodies. This year the Sanctuary took a loan from a private source, to allow the purchase of a piece of land to the value of £72,057. This purchase will provide security for the future of the charity, and the intention is to repay the loan as soon as possible.

## **Reserves policy**

The charity still aims towards creating a reserves policy to safeguard the future of our work, however this is a long term goal and not achievable at present, as absolutely all funds received are needed immediately for charitable activities.

## **Future plans**

The main aim for the charity over the coming financial period, is to increase our income streams. We have recently strengthened our Management team, and have a strong Fundraising Plan in place; this includes building on our community fundraising methods, and increasing funding through grant acquisition and legacies. A dramatic improvement in the financial security is paramount for the sustainability and future of the charity.

The trustees' annual report was approved on 12.12.25 and signed on behalf of the board of trustees by:

Rebecca Barlow (Trustee)

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31 March 2025.

As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

## **Independent examiner’s statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or

- • the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or

- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
