## **Objectives and activities**

The charity is for the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of animals in need of care and attention. In particular to offer shelter or sanctuary for animals which are in need of medical attention, provide medical treatment for animals, actively seek new homes for “ rescued ” animals.

## **Achievements and performance**

## **Charitable activities**

Since the foundation of the charity in July 2021, Pear Tree Farm Animal Sanctuary has grown both in size and amount of rescue and rehoming work undertaken.

Since the sanctuary began in December of 2018, we have rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed 7,405 animals in need (current number at time of writing 04.10.2024). This financial year 23/24, our intake numbers are at 18 individual animals, and successfully rehomed 9 animals.

This last year we have increased our team of volunteers, and currently work with around 20 regular or occasional people. To date we have had around 80 different individuals work with us since our formation. We continue to develop our working relationship with peoplefocused organisations, in particular Compass Provision - an alternative provisions organisation who work with disadvantaged young people offering education opportunities through volunteer work at the Sanctuary. We have 5 - 10 young people come to the Sanctuary each week under this arrangement. **Financial review**

## **Financial position**

The trustees consider that the finances of the charity are satisfactory, however there is the agreement that more funding could mean better financial security for the charity, as well as greatly increase the opportunity for charitable activities.

## **Principal funding sources**

Since the formation of the charity, the primary source of funding has been through supporter donations, plus some grants from other bodies.

## **Reserves policy**

The charity is looking to establish a reserves policy which will have the objective of safeguarding the future of our work, however this is a long term goal and not achievable at present, as absolutely all funds received are needed immediately for charitable activities.

## **Future plans**

The main aim for the charity over the coming financial period, is to increase income through developing fundraising and other income streams. To date, successful income streams include offering tours and refreshments to the public, which has brought financial support through donations, as well as furthered our charity aim of educating and spreading awareness on the issues of animal welfare. The welfare of the animals has to be balanced with this to ensure it is not compromised. Our current focus is to grow these interactions, and to develop a Fundraising Manager role, to assist with grant acquisition and to secure the sustainability and future of the charity.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31 March 2024.

As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

## **Independent examiner’s statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or

- • the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or

- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
