TR7 3BS Registered Charity No. 1195276 Treasurer: Steven Wilkins Secretary: Jane Mitchell Website: www.tqgc.org Email: office@tqgc.org ## **Structure Governance and Management** The Quarry Gospel Church is a foundation CIO and as such is governed by trustees who are appointed in accordance with the Constitution an **d** Church Handbook. ## **Ex Officio Trustees as at 31 March 2025:** Andrew Duncan Mitchell, Pastor ## **Trustees as at 31 March 2025:** Linda Kenna Ruth Dymond Fiona A Knight ## **Aim and Purposes** The Trustees of The Quarry Gospel C **h** urch (‘TQGC’) working together with the P **a** stor, Andrew Mitchell have the responsibility of: - 1) advancing of the Christian faith in accordance with the Basis of Faith pri **m** arily but not exclusively within Newquay and the surrounding neighbourhood; and - 2) such other charitable purposes a **s** shall, in the opinion of the members of the Church in general meeting, put into practice the Christian faith in accordance with the Basis of **F** aith, including but not limited to: the prevention and re **l** ief of need, hardship and sickness; the adva **n** cement of education; and the provision of facilities in t **h** e interests of social welfare for recreation **o** r other leisure time occupation of individuals who ha **v** e need of such facilities by reason of their **y** outh, age infirmity or disability, financial hardship or s **o** cial circumstances with the object of impro **v** ing their conditions of life. ## **Objectives and Activities** When planning the activities of TQGC the Trustees are mindful of these responsibilities and also the Charities Commission guidance on public benefit. Therefore they seek to enable as many people within Newquay and the surrounding area to attend worship at TQGC, and live out their faith in such a way that these purposes and responsibilities are met. To achieve this church activities centre around: 1. Sunday Worship including Sunday school for those 11yrs old and younger. 2. Mid week Bible study. 3. Weekly home group prayer meetings. 4. Pastoral care. 5. Wider participation through the internet and social media. 6. Social gatherings to build relationships. 7. Evangelism. These activities not only meet the aims and purposes of the church as laid down by the Charities Commission but also match the model of the church given in Acts 2:42, our church motto: ## _**“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer”.**_ ## **Achievements and Performance** Praise and Worship lie at the heart of the church’s life. The Psalmist says: ## _**“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness!**_ ## _**Come into his presence with singing!”**_ Paul takes up the theme in his letter to the Ephesians: ## _**“Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord,**_ ## _**always giving thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”**_ We have continued to see this as our primary objective over the past year and have enjoyed providing the local community with an opportunity to worship each week. The worship always focuses on the public reading and exposition of Scripture, together with application enabling people to see how this teaching of the Bible is relevant to their daily lives; also of equal importance is prayer, praise and participation in the Lord’s Supper. Over the past 12 months we have seen similar weekly attendance to the previous year and we have also been delighted to welcome 3 attendees into membership of the church. We have continued to offer age appropriate teaching for children below the age of 12. The content of the children’s Sunday School has often been enjoyed by the adults during the post-service refreshments! We look forward to seeing some of the children start to make the transition from Sunday School to adult worship in 2025-26. Our Bible Study meetings have remained well attended. The year began with the ongoing study in Mark’s Gospel. We read in the New Testament: ## _**“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.”**_ and ## _**“For everything that was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures, we might have hope.”**_ In the light of these verses, in our subsequent studies we tackled some passages of Scripture which are often left unstudied, due to their subject matter and/or complexity. This was enjoyed by all who came and it has encouraged people and has given them the opportunity to explore challenging issues as they progress in their faith. The two main weekly prayer groups continue unchanged and are considered essential to achieving the aim and purposes of the church. A new monthly gathering has been established in February of this year. “Food For Thought” is an opportunity for those who are available on the 3[rd] Wednesday of the month, to gather together at the home of one of our members, to enjoy a short time of testimony and worship, followed by a traditional afternoon tea. Pastoral Care in the 21[st] Century is continually changing in nature. Where once it centred around visitation and conversation, it now often involves very practical help. Many elderly people find themselves unable to engage with services and providers expecting ‘online’ communication. As a church we have found ourselves busy with assisting some of our congregation in overcoming these difficulties. Paul writes in his letter to the Galatians: ## _**“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to the family of faith.”**_ We have endeavoured to meet any practical or spiritual needs that crop up within the church family and where possible to extend our reach of practical care to those outside of the church. The “Digital” output of the church continued throughout the year. Once again many people took advantage of the Services and Bible Studies available on our website. During the year there were 687 downloads. As well as people from the UK, we continued to have people accessing the website from Europe and further afield. CDs of recorded services were also made available as usual for local delivery. There were two major social events outside of our usual weekly meetings. In July 2024, most of the church members and friends embarked on a trip down the River Fal; later in the year, we gathered together at a local restaurant for a carvery. Both occasions were considered a great success and we look forward to similar events as the church moves forward. We continue to strive to strengthen the ties of love which bind us together as a caring community. Our efforts to reach out to the community around us continued throughout the year. New signage was erected to replace that which was destroyed by a winter storm. An additional banner for Sunday Mornings has been put up each week to increase our visibility which, even in a just a few weeks, has already borne fruit. One of the members of our church has taken on the responsibility of leaflet distribution, which aims to draw people to Jesus Christ. Our commitment to outreach does not limit itself to Newquay alone; we seek to be obedient to Christ’s call to take the Good News of the Gospel to “ _**the ends of the earth.”**_ One way we have been able to do this is through engagement with the Christian Charity “Compassion”, which seeks to lift children out of poverty to give them a future and a hope and to bring them to knowledge of Jesus Christ. A representative of the charity visited the church in April 2024, and as a result of this service, more sponsors came forward. It is always appropriate in such reports as this to recognise the contribution of every individual who gives of their time and energy to the work of the church and we are thankful for all their many contributions. As we step out in faith into the coming year, we declare our reliance on God, knowing that it is only by the power of the Holy Spirit that we can achieve anything. As Jesus said: ## _**“..for apart from me you can do nothing.”**_ ## **Financial Review** The accounts for the year ended 31 March 2025 are attached to this report. We give all the Glory to God for his provision financially. The Trustees continue to seek ways of blessing other Christians and ministries with financial blessings as God enables us. Note re Pastoral Costs: Section 6.1 of the Constitution states that: _**“Any office holder appointed in accordance with the Church Handbook and any employee of the Church may receive reasonable compensation (including accommodation) for carrying out their duties as office holders and/or employees notwithstanding that they are or may be a charity trustee of the Church or a connected person to a charity trustee.”**_ The Pastor of the Church, Ex officio trustee Andrew Mitchell, has received payment for his role as Pastor of the church and not for carrying out his duties as a trustee.
