Objectives and Activities
The main purpose of TYC is to provide a safe space for young people aged 10 – 17 to socialise, engage in learning activities and have positive experiences. By doing so TYC hopes to empower its young people to realise their potential and participate in society as responsible citizens who are valued within their community.
To achieve its objectives and purpose TYC complete the following activities:
-
Holds three weekly youth club sessions for three age groups: Primary school ages; School Yrs 7-8; and School Yrs 9+.
-
Trustees and volunteers are involved with activities and talks from other agencies aimed at encouraging discussions on topics such as behaviour and healthy eating.
-
Facilitate trips and outings for its young people to encourage team building, leadership qualities and trust.
TYC presently relies almost completely on volunteers. There are 14 registered volunteers. ALL volunteers are required to complete the Safer Recruitment process. Each session requires at least one volunteer to be a qualified First Aider and some volunteers have undertaken this training.
The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

Chair’s Report
It has been another good and successful year for Thirsk Youth Club.
We continue to see strong demand for our services, with three sessions being held each week, each tailored to specific age groups. These sessions are divided by school years: 5-7, 8-9, and year 10 and upwards, ensuring that we cater to the needs of our diverse age groups effectively.
In response to feedback from our members, we introduced a monthly Quiet Session this year. This initiative was designed to provide a calm, reflective space where young people can engage in mindful activities and have a chance to talk in a quieter environment. While this session caters to a smaller group, it has proven popular and meets a real need for some of our young people.
We are fortunate to have welcomed more volunteers into the club, which has been a true blessing. Their dedication and support are instrumental in the running of our sessions and in maintaining the safe, welcoming atmosphere that the youth club provides. One of our volunteers has embarked on Level 2 Youth Worker training through the National Youth Agency, which is a fantastic development and will be an asset to the club going forward. We are also encouraging some of our older young people to do North Yorkshire Youth’s Young Leader Award.
Behaviour across all age groups has been consistently positive, with only one or two minor incidents occurring throughout the year. This is a testament to the excellent attitude of our young members and the positive relationships that they are building with each other and our team.
This year also saw the launch of our first community Duck Race, held during the August Bank Holiday. The event was a great success, attracting a good crowd from the local community. It provided an opportunity for us to raise some additional funds while bringing people together. Given its popularity, we hope to establish this as an annual event in our calendar.
Our trips continue to be a highlight for the young people and play an important role in fostering teamwork and building strong relationships. This year, thanks to FEAST funding, we enjoyed two sessions of Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) at Ellerton Lake, Richmond, which was well-received and enjoyed by all participants.

Thank you.
