Objectives and Activities
The main purpose of TYC is to provide a safe space for young people aged 10 – 17 to socialise, engage in learning activities and have positive experiences. By doing so TYC hopes to empower its young people to realise their potential and participate in society as responsible citizens who are valued within their community.
To achieve its objectives and purpose TYC complete the following activities:
-
Holds two weekly youth club sessions for two age groups. One for school years 6-8 and one for school year 9+
-
Trustees and volunteers are involved with activities and talks from other agencies aimed at encouraging discussions on topics such as behaviour and healthy eating
-
Facilitate trips and outings for its young people to encourage team building, leadership qualities and trust.
TYC presently relies completely on volunteers. There are 15 registered volunteers. ALL volunteers are required to complete the Safer Recruitment process. Each session requires at least one volunteer to be a qualified First Aider and some volunteers have undertaken this training.
The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

Achievements and Performance
TYC has formed good positive relationships with over 50-60 young people (aged 10-16), providing a safe space for them to gather with friends, have food, play games, be involved with kitchen activities and learn new skills.
By engaging with young people in this way and developing a sense of trust, we are able to have meaningful conversations with them on issues that are brought to the table – either at their instigation or ours. These may be to do with behaviour, language, substance abuse, diet, aspirations, hopes and fears.
We have had three excellent trips which have increased the sense of collaborative teamwork, sense of belonging, and trust.
We have identified and affirmed individuals who have displayed particular skills and are excited to see how these develop. We have also seen very significant positive changes in some, who help during sessions and are potential leaders and trustees.
Anti-social behaviour has fallen gradually during the year since TYC started (https://www.ukcrimestats.com/Subdivisions/CED/16412/#Crime) apart from a rise during the autumn school term (coincident with the secondary school’s experience).
