who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth,
age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and
economic circumstances or for the public at large in the
interests of social welfare and with the object of improving
the conditions of life of the said inhabitants.|

In addition, each year we organise a ‘Father Christmas’ tour
of the Village with Caterham Rotary to raise funds for local
organisations.|

Both the Hall and Fete rely totally on volunteers – CCT has no staff. Their contribution is immense and neither organisation could function without their contributions.
## **B. Achievements and Performance**
_Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole._
The year from 1 April 2022 was the first full year of the charity’s activities. The country was coming out of the Covid pandemic and we were able to fully open the Village Hall for business at last and have our first Village Fete for three years.
The Hall quickly resumed its place at the heart of the Village and in fact had its most successful year ever; ending the year pretty much fully booked. The number of local groups using the Hall is at record levels, with the Pre-school the main user. We also provide a muchloved venue for children’s parties, with one or two parties most weekends.
Since the pandemic the Hall is now much more widely known and used in the local area too, outside of the Village, providing a very valuable resource for society.
The Village Fete had to move to the Village’s National Trust field known as Six Brothers Field, as its previous venue the Village School is being extended into a full primary School. The first Fete since the pandemic was a great success in its new venue, with record crowds and the most money raised for local organisations ever.
The Fete is organised by volunteers from these local organisations and residents. It is a wonderful event for bringing the Village together and celebrating all that is great about Chaldon; as well as providing much needed funds for local groups. We are very grateful to everyone who gets involved in organising it.
## **C. Financial Review**

examined. They show that during the year Village Hall
income was £29,235 and expenditure was £21,957 – a
surplus for the year of £7,287.
The Village Fete aims to break even each year, with all
income being either spent on organising the Fete
(keeping this as low as possible) or given in donations
to local organisations. This year we donated £6,693
and carried over a small balance of £11.|

that there will be unplanned maintenance, as the
building is now 100 years old; and planned

there is none. In addition, the rapidly rising
costs of heating mean that there is a case for
switching to heat pumps as a means of heating
the Hall. This is being investigated but may
require substantial investment
A ‘wash-out’ of the Fete. Each year we invest in
the Fete before it occurs in the knowledge that
on the day it could rain and cause us to cancel
the Fete at very short notice. So we need to
keep reserves to allow us to deal with this.|

Village Hall income was £29,200 rather than the budget of £26,000. This was due to an increase in lettings by £1,600 and an increase in Pre-school fees. Expenditure was £20,000 rather than £24,000
The main reason was an overestimate of the Gas and Electricity charges The net result was that the balance for the Village Hall was £7,300. The CCT bank has now a healthy balance of almost £36,000

## **Independent examiner’s report to the Trustees of the Chaldon Community Trust**
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Chaldon Community Trust for the year ended 30 March 2023.
## **Responsibilities and basis of report**
As the trustees of the Charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner’s statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
