– Ageing Without Children Registered Charity No. 1195122
– Annual Report and Statement of Accounts 1/4/22 31/3/23
Our Vision and Mission
Our vision is a world where people without children are enabled to age well.
With the number of older people without adult children set to rise from over 1.2 million to 2 million by 2030 we will see increasing strain on social and care services, and increasing difficulties for those ageing without children in accessing both formal and informal support.
Our mission is therefore to support those who are ageing without children for whatever reason, and to influence health and social care policy to improve their lives.
Governance and Risk
Trustee who served on the Board of the charity in this period were
Paul Goulden – Chair
Jenny Collieson – Trustee
Jason Bergen – Trustee
Jean Basson - Trustee
The Board met monthly throughout the period, to manage the activities of the charity and to assess any risk to the organisation.
Activities and Impact
Governance
In addition to the work below, we spent a considerable part of the year discussing our governance arrangements regarding the local groups, and as a result we now have a partnership agreement to manage these relationships. We also consulted on our logo with local groups and changed this to reflect those discussions.
Toolkit
We continued to promote the AWOC-friendly toolkit developed with the National Care Forum, as a way of helping organisations support those ageing without children.
Local Groups
We met every month with the local groups to support their work, share knowledge and ideas, and to help with their development. During the period there were groups and /or activity in York, Leeds, Bradford, East Lindsey, East Kent, Hastings, Middlesborough, Dorset and Gloucestershire.
Outreach, social media and website
During the period we continued to raise the issues of those ageing without children and support them through attending meetings with relevant organisations, and through our social media work on both Facebook and Twitter. We also used our website as a tool for information and advice for those ageing without children.
