## **Our Vision and Mission** 

Our vision is a world where people without children are enabled to age well. 

With the number of older people without adult children set to rise from over 1.2 million to 2 million by 2030 we will see increasing strain on social and care services, and increasing difficulties for those ageing without children in accessing both formal and informal support. 

Our mission is therefore to support those who are ageing without children for whatever reason, and to influence health and social care policy to improve their lives. 

## **Governance and Risk** 

Trustee who served on the Board of the charity in this period were 

Paul Goulden – Chair 

Jenny Collieson – Trustee 

Jason Bergen – Trustee 

The Board met monthly throughout the period, to manage the activities of the charity and to assess any risk to the organisation. 

## **Activities and Impact** 

Since the incorporation of the charity (9[th] July 2021) the activities and impact of the charity were – 

## Survey 

We conducted a survey to assess the current feelings of those ageing without children and in particular to find out the impact that Covid19 and the lockdown had on them. There were 213 responses, and respondents highlighted 

- Continuing to feel lonely, being overlooked and outside of societal norms 

- Feeling anxious about the future 

- Feeling that the overall Covid19 narrative was around families and households 

- That ageism had increased due to Covid19 

- That friends were increasingly important 

- That more now had an unfavourable view of care homes 

- That more peer support and information would help them feel prepared for later life. 

The results of the survey were released in a report “A Lonely Place To Be” through social media channels and on our website - Press Release 30/7/21 | Awwoc. 

## Webinar 

We hosted a webinar in September 2021 to coincide with World Childless Week, highlighting the future role of the charity and hearing from those who are ageing without children. As a result of the webinar we opened up conversations with people interested in starting local groups. 

## Toolkit 

We worked in partnership with the National Care Forum on a toolkit to support their members in supporting those ageing without children. 



## Local Groups 

Whilst local AWOC groups are not formally affiliated to the charity, we met every month with them to support their work. During the period there were groups in York, Leeds, Bradford and East Lindsey. 

## Social media and website 

During the period we continued to raise the issues of those ageing without children and support them through our social media work on both Facebook and Twitter, and used our website as a tool for information and advice for those ageing without children. 

## **Future Activities** 

The focus of the 2022/23 year will be to 

- Open a bank account and apply for funding to 

   - Redesign the website 

   - Undertake activity to further promote the issues around those ageing without children 

   - support local groups 

- Support the growth of local groups 

- Continue to raise the profile of the issues of those ageing without children 

- Review our governance structure with regards to the local groups 

## **Statement of Accounts** 

The charity received no cash income from grants, contracts or donations during the period to 31[st] March 2022. Incidental administrative expenses were covered by Trustees or volunteers.
