FRIENDS OF CHURCH STRETTON SWIMMING POOL - STRETTON POOL ACTION (SPA) Registered Charity Number 1195071
Trustees Annual Report Financial Year ended 31[st] December 2022
Stretton Pool Action (SPA) was formed in 2016, as a group of concerned users of Church Stretton Swimming Pool and local residents to lobby Shropshire Council for the retention of the pool in response to their proposed Indoor Leisure Facilities Strategy, 2018 -2023. The group used the Charities Commission’s standard Charitable Incorporated Organisation constitution which was adopted at a meeting on 1[st] December 2016.
The SPA Steering Group applied for, and was successful in becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, Friends of Church Stretton Swimming Pool - Stretton Pool Action (SPA) in July 2021.
All current and future assets and liabilities were transferred to the new Charity. The new name and Charity number was adopted. A new constitution, again the Charities Commission’s standard Charitable Incorporated Organisation constitution was also adopted.
The trustees manage the day to day running of the Charity and are appointed or reappointed at the Annual General Meeting held each February or March. Members are advised at General Meetings that new Trustees are always welcomed. On occasion individual members are approached. The Trustees during the year to 31[st] December 2022 were as follows:
David Betton (Chair) Chris Ball (Secretary) Angie Walshaw (Treasurer) Terry Davies Denise Cottom Ann Spandrzyk
The charity’s correspondence address is Stretton Pool Action, c/o Leisure Centre, Shrewsbury Rd, Church Stretton, SY6 6EX
The Groups’ Bankers throughout the year were TSB Business Internet Banking. The Association’s cash assets at 31[st] December 2022 were £6,434.37.
The accounts have been examined and found to have no material matters of concern.
The objects of Friends of Church Stretton Swimming Pool - Stretton Pool Action (SPA) are:
•The promotion of community participation in healthy recreation by providing or assisting in the provision and development of facilities for swimming in Church Stretton and surrounding areas.
• The advancement of the amateur sport in Church Stretton and surrounding areas for the public benefit by the provision and development of facilities or opportunities for participation in the sport of swimming.
• To advance the education of the public in the subjects of water safety and the benefits of swimming and sport.
The Trustees held 10 Trustees meetings during the year. The Chair and /or Secretary met with Shropshire Council Leisure Centre staff 4 times and twice with Shropshire Council Councillors during the year.
Trustees organised a competition for school children, from the 2 primary schools which use the pool, to design a neck buff. The 2 winning entries were produced as neck buffs for sale at the Leisure Centre, local retailers and local events. The initiative served both to raise local awareness of the importance of the pool to local children and to raise funds. Other fundraising was limited to a plant stall and raffle at one of the local events. Trustees continued to raise awareness of the pool as a local facility by ensuring local venues, such as the Tourist Information Centre and camping and B&B establishments have Leisure Centre leaflets for tourists.
The charity has no employees and so is entirely reliant on voluntary help and support. The trustees are extremely grateful for this help and support during the year, which is invaluable in helping with the fundraising required to enable the Group to carry out its’ objectives.
The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above.
Signed on behalf of the trustees.
