The CJP conducts research and provides guidance on how newsrooms can gain charitable status, and become more financially sustainable. We work with newsrooms, researchers, lawyers, academics and other experts to understand the UK's developing news landscape and strategise to strengthen its future.

Objects: The Charity’s Objects Are, For The Public Benefit, To: (A) Promote Citizenship And Civic Responsibility And Encourage And Facilitate Informed Participation And Engagement By Members Of The Public In Their Communities And In Democratic Processes; (B) Promote High Ethical And Quality Standards In Journalism; And(c) Advance Education In Relation To Public Benefit Journalism,in Each Case Through Research, Providing Accurate And Relevant Information, And Promoting Informed Public Discourse And Debate, All In Relation To Public Benefit Journalism.in This Object, “Public Benefit Journalism” Means “Journalism Which Is Produced For The Benefit Of The General Public, In Accordance With High Ethical And Quality Standards And Which Generates Reliable, Objective, Politically Neutral, Fact-Based Information And Enables Members Of The Public To Be Informed And Engaged Citizens”
