Sporting Opportunities ISLE OF WIGHT REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE FINANCIAL PERIOD I" April 2025 to 31st March 2026 Durin8 the pericd to which this report refers Sporting Opportunities Isle of Wight {SOIWI continued to provide opportunities for adults and youn8 people with leaming disabilities living on the Isle of Wight to participate in sport includin8, where possible. participating in competition. SOIW 15 an entirely volunteer run organisation and has no employees and none of the volunteers received any remuneration. There were no changes to the trustees or management committee during this financial year Durin8 the period of this report, SOIW athletes contlnued to particlpate in athletiC5, football, indoor bow15, swimming, tsble tennis and multi-sports. There continues to be enthusiastic demand for our trdinin8 sessions and the football, and l)owls sessions are effectivelv operdting at capacity. Training sessions generally were run weekly except durin8 school holSdays. Our bowls players took part in excellent comwtitions in Stroud and Winchesterand achieved notable success. We sent 3 teams of 41)owlers to Stroud and won both the 15¢ and 2ntJ divisions. In Winehester. one of our bowlers came 2 overdll with a score equal to the overdll winner. We took a team of 12 athletes to an athletics competition at Lea Valley, and they won an amazing 36 medals. And our football team perfonned brilliantly in competitions at Slough and Newport Pagnell. We are very grateful to the volunteer coaches that led our tRinin8 sesslons and to the venues that allow us to Use their facilities at no charge or at a discounted rate. We are also grateful to the organisations and individuals who gave donations or organised fund-raising activitie5 to support Us. A150. we are grateful to Wightlink who allowed us to travel to the mainland forcompetitions at no charge and to Rvde School forthe loan of a minlbus when needed. In February 2026, we were notified by Special Olympits G8 of their intent to run a series of National Summer Games in July and August 2026. This led us to in5tl8ate what is, for us, major fund-raisin8 drive to cover the cost of our athletes participating in the Games. This increased fundraisin8 efft)rt together with our gUlar sources of income resulted in pleasing surplus at our financial year end. As a result. SOIW finance5 are in good shape. It continue5 to be very pleasin8 to see the obvlou5 P051tive effert that takln8 part In 5POrt Is havlng on the wellbein8 and fftness of our athlete$.
