The Rotary Shop of Penzance was formed as a CIO in June 2021. The Charity has 8 Trustees.
For the duration of this accounting period the Trustees were:
Robin Butler Nigel Clark Susan Home Dee Lucking David Mayo Zena Muth – Secretary John Underhill - Treasurer Russell Whitlock
The charity does not employ anyone but has 42 volunteers who serve in the shop, as well as assisting in the sorting, cleaning, pricing and displaying of pre-loved goods.
The objective of the shop is the relief of the poor and needy in Penzance, in Cornwall or in any other part of the United Kingdom.
The Trustees award grants out of the net income of the CIO.
During the Covid-19 pandemic the shop was not able to operate. Once the government relaxed the restrictions on shops trading the shop re-opened, albeit with limited hours and days. This was partly due to the demographics of the volunteers (most of whom are retirees) and due to the uncertainty as to how the virus was spreading in the community.
Since the summer of 2022 shop has been open 6 days a week, from 10.30 to 3.30. The recent downturn in the economy and the increase in fuel costs has made the shop more important for those who have limited budgets.
