From its very beginning as a Chinese Christian fellowship, the organisation, now registered as Canterbury Chinese Christian Church (CCCC), has always had a very close working relationship with, and been helped and supported by, both spiritually and operationally, the Chinese Overseas Christian Mission (COCM), which itself is an interdenominational Christian charity established in 1950 with the objective of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with the Chinese diaspora and local communities in the UK and Europe.
CCCC and its predecessor has never had any paid full or part-time pastor/minister as its leader. So in December 2018 the fellowship was delighted to welcome Yunhai Wu and Chijun Zhong, missionaries from the COCM and originally from the US, as its new volunteer leaders and who had felt called to serve God in England. In parallel, CCCC and its predecessor has been and continues to be blessed by the generous support offered by St. Andrew’s United Reformed Church, Canterbury, where CCCC holds its Sunday worship services and runs other related activities. The church thanks God for all these blessings.
Under the leadership of Yunhai Wu and Chijun Zhong, the fellowship became a registered charity in June 2021, constituted as a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO), whose trustees are the only voting members serving for a term of 3 years and for a maximum of 2 consecutive terms. A trustee who has served for two consecutive terms may not be reappointed for a third consecutive term but may be reappointed after an interval of at least one year; this provision does not apply to ex officio trustees.
Objectively, the lack of paid, ‘permanent’ leaders naturally poses some level of uncertainty and instability to the leadership. The church continues to put its trust in God our Father in Heaven, believing He is faithful and continues to lead and guide us as the church seeks to honour and glorify

His name by bringing the good news of Jesus to and serving the Chinese communities in Canterbury and beyond.
As a result of the resignation of one of the first trustees (Jingjing Hu) in November 2021, and the granting of a sabbatical year in 2022 to Rachel Huiying Li (another first trustee), at the end of 2021 the board of trustees agreed to invite Mr & Mrs Frank and Aimei Hao, who have been very active and committed members of the church congregation, to join the board as non-voting members (i.e. not as trustees). Early in 2022, the board also agreed to invite Mrs Christina Denziloe, again an active and musically gifted member of our congregation to take a more regular and prominent role in leading Sunday worship. We praise God that Mr & Mrs Hao, and Mrs Denziloe have accepted our invitation and been able to contribute in many wonderful ways to our ministries. This, we believe, is a real and tangible sign of God’s love, faithfulness and compassion in meeting the need of His church, for which we are very grateful to Him.
## **Section C Objectives and activities**
**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**
The principal purpose of the charity/church is the advancement of the Christian faith primarily but not exclusively among people of Chinese origin in the Canterbury area in England according to the historic Christian Faith as set forth in the Old and New Testaments and as summarised in the Apostles’ Creed. In fulfilling this purpose the church will engage in a range of activities either on its own or with others that will vary from time to time with activities being initiated, expanded, or closed, as appropriate.
Consistent with the purpose/objects of the church set out in its constitution, and **having had full regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit** , the following activities were undertaken by the church during the period covered by this report.
## _Foreword_
In the past couple of years, the coronavirus pandemic has caused deaths in the millions, countless disruptions and untold sufferings across the entire world, and practically every organisation has had to adjust because of government-enforced lockdowns and associated legal safety restrictions. Thanks to the phased lifting of legal restrictions in the UK that began at the end of March 2021, many of the church activities, which **Summary of the main** had to be carried out online during the various lockdowns have gradually **activities undertaken for the** gone back to being physical. the glory of God and for mutual support and encouragement.
## _Bible Study Groups_
During the week we have four Mandarin-speaking Bible study groups, one Cantonese-speaking Bible study group and one university student group. These, alongside personal Bible study, enable individuals to grow spiritually based on the foundation of God’s Word – the Way, the Truth and the Life. Group studies offer an opportunity for systematic and deeper study of the Bible, enable sharing of life applications and experiences, and encourage mutual love and care.
## _Children Ministry_
Since the middle of 2021, we ran a children Sunday school online with two classes, one for 7 to 11 years old and the other for 12 years old and above; the total number of children attending ranged from 10 to 15. The online classes were particularly valuable for some children whose parents would not usually come to church on Sundays – a real outreach opportunity for these children! The school returned to St. Andrew’s Church at the beginning of 2022 as people were more and more willing to engage with one another face-to-face. Back at St. Andrew’s it has become possible to hold a baby/toddler group while the worship service is going on, which the parents can attend.
## _Student Ministry_
The start of a new academic year in September/October 2021 saw the arrival of new university students and the return of familiar faces. CCCC and its predecessor has been blessed continually by the partnership of Christian students as well as by students who wish to seek and know more about Jesus Christ. The weekly student Bible study group is popular with students, Christian and non-Christian alike. The number of students served by this ministry has been stable, ranging from 10 to 15. A couple of Christian students are also involved in our Sunday worship, serving the Lord through working the projector or through their musicality.
## _Outreach Events_
During the year, we were able to hold a number of outreach events on Sundays, at the following times: Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival (19/09/21), Christmas (19/12/21), and Chinese New Year (06/02/22). These events were well attended by up to 100 people including children, during which a specially chosen evangelical message was preached. Trustees/coworkers and volunteers worked hard to make these events successful, and we praise God that a total of 8 new believers came forward to declare their faith in Jesus Christ at these events.
## _Christian Conferences_
CCCC actively encourages all members of its congregation (students, families, etc.) to attend suitable Christian conferences organised by the COCM, which focus on a wide range of topics such as ‘family’ or ‘a particular book of the Bible’. The church publicises these conferences as they have become available, and seeks to facilitate attendance by financially supporting those members who would otherwise be unable to afford the full conference costs. Besides meeting other Christians from the wider church family, feedback from attendees has confirmed the values of going to these conferences, for instance, having their faith strengthened and gaining a greater and deeper understanding of God’s will in their lives.

The church thanks God for the many contributions to the life of our church made by volunteers, our brothers and sisters in Christ who lead our Sunday worship services regularly, as well as those who manage and run all the different church activities faithfully, and in compliance with our constitutional provisions and current applicable legal requirements.

Section D Achievements and performance
**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**
In the face of a most devastating pandemic in generations, by all accounts 2021/2022 has been a very challenging year. We thank our God that the board of trustees have been able to work together, united in Christ, responding to the demands caused by the pandemic and meeting the needs of our congregation. Thanks to the knowledge and skills of some trustees, CCCC was able to operate ‘online’ enabling our Sunday worship and many of our activities to continue. In the same way, by focussing on God our Lord and Saviour and by being sensitive to the needs of our congregation, CCCC was able to resume many face-to-face activities as the legal safety restrictions were gradually being lifted.
By the power of the Holy Spirit, on Sunday 6 February 2022, we were blessed to witness the baptisms of a couple expecting their second child, and the dedications of their little girl as well as the baby yet to be born. We thank God for His love, grace and mercy as we see new creations made and lives transformed.
During the year, there has been a strong feeling that, by God’s grace, CCCC is building a big Christian family, which is able to reach out to the local Chinese communities, a growing family from which they can receive care and support and to which they feel they belong. Yet there remains a lot more to be done but the trustees are being encouraged by these achievements and developments. For all this, we give our thanks and praise to our God who is the head of our church.
