REBUILDING LIVES COMMUNITY INITIATIVE

REPORT AND FINANCIAL STATEMENTS

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2021

TRUSTEES REPORT

The trustees presents its report and the unaudited financial statements for the year ended 31st December 2021. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable In the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2015).

Constitution and objectives

To develop the capacity and skills of people who are socially and economically disadvantaged, in order to enable them to be better positioned. We act as a resource for women, the elderly and young people, by providing mentoring support, advice, assistance and organizing programmes of physical, educational and other activities. Our main focus includes: general charitable purposes, education/training, disability the prevention or relief of poverty, economic/community development/employment and other charitable purposes.

Key activities and Achievements in the year

COVID-19 CRISIS RESPONSE SUPPORT PROGRAM (CCRSP) : In the year, we operated in Bolton, Bury, Manchester city, Salford city and Wigan. Towards the end of 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 crisis that necessitated government lockdowns and restrictions leading to so many sufferings and hardships in our community especially among the elderly, single mums, and the vulnerable, we began to make consultations on the way forward for these people.

So, in early 2021, we came up with a response with this project COVID-19 CRISIS RESPONSE SUPPORT PROGRAM (CCRSP) in partnership with the National Lottery Award for All. CCRSP was designed to provide camaraderie advice and support for the elderly and vulnerable in our community who were adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, CCRSP created a platform for us to distribute essential material relief to them for single Mums struggling with their little ones.

Equally, in order to provide camaraderie, advice/support to elderly, vulnerable, and single parents within our community, we created an online strategic streaming service to help us maintain contact with our beneficiaries as well as increase our reach and engagement with them and other potential users.

HOT MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS PROJECT : Hot food and drinks were prepared and served by our team of volunteer Cooks to rough sleepers and those experiencing homelessness in Wigan. Clean clothes, toiletries and sleeping bags and other lifesaving essentials were also offered out to those who needed them. The pandemic affected many people in many ways. Worse mental health is linked with poorer social and economic circumstances. This includes living in poverty, lack of proper meals, having low-quality or low paid work, unemployment and poor housing. The pandemic intensified existing stressors and deepened existing inequalities, and also presented new stressors for different groups of people. As a charity, we believe that everyone should have enough food to eat and that homeless people should not starve even though they are homeless. Our project addressed the stress of food poverty and the inability to have a decent meal at least once a week. We provided 3 course meals for the homeless and those who needed a hot meal in the community including vulnerable women and young people.

MEALS2U PROJECT: The aim of this project was to provide cooked hot meals to families and individuals who struggled to afford or prepare food for themselves and help combat the rise in food poverty around Bolton and Wigan. We carried out a hot meal delivery service where our Street Volunteers delivered cooked meals directly to the homeless and to the homes of those who are financially or physically unable to provide for themselves. This project was very beneficial to the homeless and to those members of our community who find it difficult to cook or travel due to age, illness, and or childcare commitments.

YOUTH INSPIRE: Through our Youth Inspire project, we supported young people from the BAME community in Wigan and Bolton, in collaboration with Loveworld. We work with young people who have migrated with their families to the UK and they face a number of challenges which we addressed through this project. Statistics for mental health issues within the BAME communities reveal BAME young people are twice as likely to be referred to mental health services through social care or youth justice than through primary care. Our aim was to empower 30 young people with skills for life, integration into community and create an atmosphere for them to thrive while mixing with others which would improve their self esteem, mental health and wellbeing. We held engagement workshops on improving confidence/selfesteem, coping skills, skills for sustainability/environment and skills for education, work and volunteering. The young people also had the opportunity to share their experiences and changes they'd love to see in the community while being inspired by BAME youth above 25years who have successfully overcome these challenges to become people of repute in the community. The youth were inspired and empowered with skills and tools to succeed in spite of their peculiar challenges and societal issues.

TOGETHER FOR OUR PLANET: This project carried out in collaboration with the National Lottery, highlighted the importance of community-led climate action by encouraging more people to get involved and providing skills and training opportunities for communities to support climate action. The environment movement needs to value diversity and this was an opportunity to ensure that BAME African community is involved. Therefore, this project increased opportunity to look at issues around diversity, inclusion, social integration, and ensuring we all have equitable access to knowledge. Black African leaders in Wigan were empowered so they could mobilise their community to join the environmental movement and take action, start the conversation, undertake community research and engagement activities, build connections with local organisations and take part in conferences and other speaking events. We helped them build their skills, knowledge and capacity to enable them to add their voices and leadership into Wigan's strategy for a greener Borough. We worked with 15 leaders and engaged 75 people in Wigan. Activities held include: Training, community outreach and 10 workshops and learning circles: Climate change and health, climate change and food shortage, recycling, climate change and energy, climate change and cars.

Future Projects

Covid-19 Crisis Response Support Programme (CCRSP) Continuation- Though the Pandemic is not in a critical stage as before, people are still living with its effects. Dancing Togethe r- The project is under our Social Cohesion and Integration Scheme (SCIS) and will include training and mentorship to teens, single mums, and young people on community building and development to bring the community together, reduce isolation and stereotype, improve emotional wellbeing and physical health.

Bringing Hope through Sport - Weekly keep fit activities for homeless, destitute asylum seekers and refugees in Wigan. Rebuilding lives work with people at the margin of our society who are in need of a second chance to rebuild their lives in Bolton and Wigan.

Financial review for the year

The Donation Income of the charity is £31,560 with expenditures at £28,766. The Trustees are proactively engaging other measures to manage cost and increase sustainability in the charity. At the time of approving the financial statements, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the Charity has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. Thus the Trustees continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparing the financial statements.

Risk assessment

The major risks to which the Charity is exposed as Identified by the Trustees have been lack of funding to deliver some key projects. Some of our projects were delayed or couldn't start due to insufficient funds or delayed funding. Some projects we embarked on needed more volunteers to run. We are building our volunteer network to engage more volunteers in projects and activities, as projects need more hands-on volunteers to run.
