Report

Structure, governance and management

The charity is newly constituted as a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation), and is is governed under a constitution adopted on 17th June 2021. Its predecessor was charity number: 294636.

Aims and Organisation

The objects of the CIO are “to advance the Christian faith in accordance with its statement of faith, in Aylesbury, throughout England and overseas, for the benefit of the public mainly but not exclusively through the holding of prayer meetings, religious education, religious ceremonies and to provide outreach and pastoral care for the community.

The church's public name is ‘Granville Street Church’; for legal, banking and administrative purpose, its name is ‘Granville Street Evangelical Church’.

Trustees’ responsibilities

The trustees are responsible for the management and administration of the charity. They acknowledge their responsibility to maintain proper accounting records, to prepare Annual Accounts which show a true and fair view of the activities of the charity and to take appropriate measures to protect the assets of the charity from major loss.

The total income is under the current £500,000 audit threshold in the Charities Act 2011 and the trustees have therefore agreed that the accounts should be independently examined rather than incurring the additional costs of audit.

This report is made under the Charities Act 2011 in accordance with the requirements of the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008.

Review of activities

When planning the church’s activities for the year, the trustees have considered the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit. The church is led by two elders and four deacons. The elders are trustees. During 2022 the church had suffered from the Covid restrictions of the previous year, and the informal membership of the church had decreased to about sixty adults and young people. However, the church continued to maintain a very active and sacrificial support of missionary and evangelistic work, in Aylesbury Vale and the UK and abroad.

Review of financial affairs

The church has no salaried staff, but does use the services of a small cleaning company. Church members (including the trustees) who undertake maintenance work and who choose to claim for that work are paid at a modest hourly rate. Church members (including the trustees) are reimbursed for any expenses incurred and claimed in connection with church activities.

The church was able to continue to let its church building during the week to a mental health support group and to a retired staff association and a Women’s Institute group, as it had in previous years.

Apart from these rental incomes, the church is wholly dependent on the giving of its members. Its own financial needs are modest, and in 2022 45% of the church’s income was allocated to external missionary and evangelistic work.

Property The Trust owns the church building; it does not own any other property.

Insurance The church building, and the Trust’s other assets and liabilities, are comprehensively insured.

Maintenance A programme of regular maintenance and replacement is followed to keep the church building in good order.

Investment Powers The Trust Deed implicitly authorises the trustees to make and hold investments using the funds of the charity. No such investments are presently held.

Payments to or on behalf of Trustees The trustees receive no payment for their services, and have received no expenses associated with their trusteeships.

Signed on behalf of the trustees David Watkins
