Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document
The objects of the CIO are the promotion of inclusion in the Bury District for the public benefit by: (a) the elimination of discrimination in relation to lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex and queer individuals living within the Bury District. (b) advancing education and raising awareness in equality and diversity, housing law, health and other subjects pertaining to the LGBTQ+ community. (c) promoting activities to foster understanding between people from

(e) cultivating a sentiment in favour of equality, diversity and inclusion. Summary of Main Activities Bury LGBTQI Forum runs a monthly LGBTQI drop in on the second Tuesday of each month. This is now in its[[3rd]] year and is hosted at an Arts Community Centre. Sessions included poetry evening, Coming Out Stories and a Xmas Party. A different venue now hosts a Women’s LGBTQI-+ group through the support of the Manchester Pride Community Grant in the hope of diversifying the membership. The Women’s group, which includes transgender and intersex members, has run quiz nights, banner making nights and a women’s health chats with Health Watch who were conducting research for the NHS into health inequalities. These two groups mentioned above started to work with two LGBTQI+ artists, Sarah Joy Ford and Leverett Jaques in March 2024 on Bunnies. This exhibition at Bury Art Gallery was to be opened later in the year and was partly funded by the Manchester Pride community fund and the Arts Council. The Mayor hosted a number of Mayoral receptions for the Forum after flag raising events outside the town hall to mark World Aids Day, International Day of Disabled People and Transgender Remembrance Day and LGBT History month. Bury LGBTQI Forum organised hate crime events at Bury Met for Groups of Ethnic Minorities, Disability and transgender which included refreshments and further discussions/interviews with people affected by Hate crime. The forum has continued to forge links with Bury College and several LGBT support groups within schools in the borough. LGBT awareness sessions for pupils from different schools has been delivered. Bury LGBTQI Forum has been working at a more cultural level to increase the profile of LGBTQI+ people in Bury. We have led on a book review with a local LGBTQI+ writer, Matt Cain in February 2024. Held monthly community meetings in Bury’s only gay bar, House of Bridget to invite the community to help us make Bury Pride more inclusive and ran the only Steam Rainbow train in the country for the fourth year running in September 2023. We take an active role in the strategic partnership of Team Bury in the Community Safety group. The Co-Chairs have attended monthly meetings with the Independent Advisory Group for Bury Police to maintain our presence in acting as a critical friend for the LGBTQI community. They are also members of the Inclusion Group within Bury Council so can influence policy makers.
