A is for Aphra is governed by its constitution and managed by its Board of Trustees. 

This reporting period covered the charity's establishment following registration. The trustees worked together to establish appropriate governance arrangements, consider the charity's strategic direction and begin developing plans to advance its charitable purposes. 

## **Charitable Objects and Public Benefit** 

The charity exists to advance education, heritage and the arts by promoting public awareness and appreciation of the life, works and legacy of Aphra Behn, particularly her historic association with the City of Canterbury. 

The trustees have had due regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit when exercising their powers and planning the charity's activities. 



## **Achievements and Performance** 

This was the charity's first reporting period following registration. 

During the period, the trustees focused on establishing the charity and laying the foundations for future activity. Initial work centred on developing the charity's governance, considering how best to fulfil its charitable objectives and exploring opportunities to promote greater public awareness of Aphra Behn and her enduring literary and historical significance. 

The trustees also considered the long-term aspiration of securing a permanent public memorial to Aphra Behn in Canterbury, recognising the importance of partnership working and careful project development before embarking on fundraising or project delivery. 

No fundraising activities were undertaken during the period, and the charity did not receive grants, donations or other income, nor did it incur any expenditure. 

## **Financial Review** 

The charity remained financially dormant throughout the reporting period. 

No income was received, no expenditure was incurred and the charity held no assets or liabilities. 

The trustees did not open or operate a bank account during this period, as there was no financial activity requiring one.
