We have Bot a great group ol player5 In the 1st team and acros5 the club as a whole. Selectlon was deflnltely easler in 2025 than in previou5 year5 Imth a good group to select frorn. Obvlously we stlll want to keep addlng to that group with the righi player5. Obviously we want to back up our performance from last year wlth another srrong year in the league but I think anotheT target could bÈ the knockout competitlOn5, league cup and the national knockout. I have stepped down as captain and Joe MacGregor Is taklng over and after the season he had last year it seems pretty fltting that he takes the relns. With Joe having such a full on lob in London I think he will need as much help a5 Possible from the committee and managernent. My two years as captaln I was given plenty of job5 which, I would argue, fall outside the remlt ol the 1st team captain. On the whole I had enough tlme to do those things and I was happy enough to do them. Although with Joe being based In London there will be a lot that he can't do. I have been out of the loop recently havlng stepped down but I hope creating a club captain rol& is 80ing 3head 3nd this will help Joe masslvely. I thlnk we now have some good proce55e5 in place in terms of selectlons and mana8ing the club through Pitchero etc so I hope this wlll rnake Joe's life easier. Flnally, I hope that we manage to organi5e an overseas pro who can help Colchesier compete on a Saturday but also brlng a lot to the club throughout the w&ek as well. In recent year5 we have seen what havlng the right overseas can do for the club so I would really urge the committee to 8ive Joe &5 much help as they can to make this happen. Despite some early challenges, the team remalned competitive throughout the season and stayed fSrmly in the promotSon race untll the c105ing stages of ihe campaign. The slde105t two garnes withln the flrst flve flxtures due to squad availability issues, and a small number of matche5 also ended in draws due to the unavailablllty of umplres. These factors ultimately proved costly in suth 3 tIEht promotlon race, and addressin8 them nexr season could make a si8nilicant dillerence. Despite these setback5, the team produced many strong perlorrnances across the season, winnlng 10 matches and demonstrating the depth and quallty within the squad. Subh8sh Perumal flnished as the leadlng run scorer with 530 runs, closely followed by Kavish Patil with 526 runs, who regularly provided strong starts at the top of the order, Seba5tlan Wheeler a150 played an important anchoring role in many games, contrlbuting 484 runs dur5ng the season. Dlllon Hatcher added 359 run5 while also contrlbutlnE Wlth the ball when required, and Ary8n Sh3rma, who joined mldway through the season, made an lrnmedlate Impact wlth 359 runs and several canslstent performances. The bowling unit also delivered several strong contrlbutions. Manith De S11va led the attack with 19 wickets and was always ready to bowl whenever required. Nlthish, who often took respon5ibllity wlth the new ball, claimed 18 wlckets. Jonty Ray, one ol the most prornising players in the squad, contributed with both bat and ball and finished wlth 17 wlckets, whlle s￿bhash Perum3131so SUPPOTted the bowllne attack with 13 wickets. Another major posStlve was the contribution of several young players stepping up into the 2nd Xl. Alfie Youngi Koby Hamllton-jones, Oscar Morton-morley and Austln Brook all contrlbuted across a number of games and showed that they are c3p8ble of competing at this level alon8slde more experienced players. While the team performed strongly wlth bat and ball, improving consistency In the field will be a key factor if the side is to convert more OPFK)rtunttles and push for promotion next sea50ll. It would also be beneficial if opportunities arise lor 1st Xl players to occasionally feature in the 2nd Xl, partlcularly to support and guide the youn8er players from the Under-IS, Under-17 and Under-19 age groups. Overall, finishing just three points away from promotion highlights the strong potential within the Squad. With improved 8v8ila6ility. better fielding Standards and the continued development ol our young playe￿, the 2nd Xl wlll be well p18ced to challenge strongly for promotlon next season. This is frustrating for all p18yers who had made themselves avallable, oppositloni ground5men and other admin¢strators from lea8ues and clubs. This said, there were some outstanding individual performances from young and Old, and there Is much posltlvlty lor what 2026 might hold. All three players looked at ease at the crease and gave real backbone to posting or chasing totals that mlghr othetwlse have been unachievable. Despite being Division 9, players from other teams rarely give away their wlckets cheaply, rarely drop c3tches that need to be caught, and rarely bowl overs lull of wides and no-t>a115, Matches stlll need to be won by well-earned runs, accurate bowllngj eamest field1n8 and sharp c8tching. Furthermore, It Is hoped that there wlll be genuine competition for startin8 places, partStularly wlth an influx of new younger players who are eli8ible lor senior Saturday cricket, and hopefully nÈw players from th& men's and women's squads who want more competitive cricket on a Saturday. It is irnportant that the club provldes support for ihe 1st te3m squad throu8h strength and depth in other elevens. Ongoing i55ue5 remain around a regular playing surface for the 3rd Xl. Availability lor the EWPL is always Impacted at the start of the season until sorne of the players return from unl but we were able to out team5 for all premler league matche5. In the T20 league, we had excellent player avallablllty throughout and were able to provide opportunltles for all those that wanted to play. WE use thi5 league to en¢tsurage development lor our women's player5 and include some of our luniors who rnade their debuts last summer. We ¢8me second In our regional division in this league. Our softball squad h3s grown over the last year with many more now coming to training on a regular basis. We have had some avai18bility issues over the sumrner for the matihes, but hoping that as this group ol players continues to grow thls wlll be less of an issue next year. Our glrls sectlon ha5 Struggled in all 35pects over the summer. We offered c03chinB throughout and started with Indlvldual development plzn5 lor all the girls but coath 8va113bllity was hit again due to unforeseen circurnstance5 which allected coaching contlnulty. At the start of 2025 5ea50n we only had 8 Eames to play, We won 6 to top the league by 50 polnts. We lost a very close game by 6 runs at home to Wivenhoe. Where the team slightly lost their heads by belng scared of their opponents, and had one conceded by Tendering. Flrst game agalnst Brightlingsea saw u5 open the batting wlth 17113, with great combined scores from Riley Robb, Parth Gupta, Harry BR, R31e Kisakye and Jude Gee. With a few early retlrements along the way, Brightlingsea cane out to bat and got 2019. Oscar May got a 3 wicket maiden in hls first over, whilst Max M8rsha11 a150 got 3 wlckets for 9 runs, the game before he got 4131 in a t30 adult game. Riley Robb then stole the show in the next two games against Harwlch and Dovercourt home and away 5corlng 73 runs and 7 wltkets across both games. with 3 of those wickets being a hattrlck In one of the games. Next up Tenderin8 a8ain where Harry BR bowling was on fire and ended with 3 wickets for 2 runs. Slightly better than the next same a8alnst Wivenho& where he got 3116. Amelia BC and Riley Robb both scored SUPErb 505 in a great partnetship aealnst Brfghtlingsea on the away flxture, Amelias In 44 balls and Rileys in 43. Last garne of the Season was unfortunately cancelled by Tendering. Harry Bond Roberts captalned most If not all of the games and has a very gotsd manner about hlm whilst representing the club. He'5 very good at encoura8ing the other plays if anyone's head drop. Pros to the season showed our clas5 In the fleld and with the ball. With most players bowling at least l over a game. Our bowling has shown that they work well as group and attack a5 one, Where I think the team lacks in the abillty to save their wicket. They try to chase the runs and play stupid shots where its unnece55ary. But I'm Guessing that's lust 88e as individually in the net5 they Show great sklll in their delensive shots. But definitely somethlng we need to work on is comp05ure. Overall fantastic to coach them last season and been a pleasure tc watch them grow.
