Trustees Annual Report

1. Introduction

This annual report provides a summary of the work undertaken by Pontsticill Community Group between April 2024 and March 2025

We became a charitable incorporated organisation in June 2021. Our stated purpose is:

a. To promote for the benefit of the public the conservation, protection and enhancement of the physical and natural environment of the village of Pontsticill and surrounding area; and

b. To promote, for the benefit of the people who live and work in Pontsticill and the surrounding area, the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation for the public at large in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the conditions of life of said people.”

The community group holds meetings of trustees and members every 2 months.

We have sought grant funding to complete environmental and conservation work over the past year and have continued to organise social activities and volunteer days.

There are currently 21 members of the charity.

4. Activities during the past year

4.1.Events and fundraising

We held a summer party on July 13[th] , 2024.

We held a Christmas raffle in December 2024 to raise funds for the community group

We produced an annual calendar which raised around 1K in sales

We held a St Davids day event on March 1[st] , 2025. This was well attended, and we raised £286 for our funds.

4.2.Grant funding

We received the following grant monies during the year:

MTCBC acquisition grant – 3.5k for purchase and works to toilets.

Tesco – 1k for parent and toddler group.

Ffos y Fran - £850 for running costs of toilets.

Community foundation Wales – 2k for insurances and running costs.

The Local Places for Nature Connector Grant - £7.230 for hedge planting and fencing to the common.

4.3.Purchase of toilets

The community group agreed to take forward the purchase of the village toilets and bus shelter from the local council which has previously been run on an annual lease basis. The cost of this is covered by and acquisition grant of 2.5K with additional grant monies of 1K for works required. The conveyancing of this is ongoing though expected to be completed soon.

4.4.Volunteer days

We continue to hold monthly volunteer days to maintain the village and surrounding area. This includes litter picking and undertaking maintenance of planted areas, hedges and verges.

4.5.Other activities

We reached the high standards needed to achieve the internationally renowned Green Flag Community Award for 2024.

We were assessed for a ‘It’s your neighbourhood’ award on July 19[th] , 2024. This is part of the Wales in Bloom competition. We were awarded level 4 and received positive feedback from the assessment process.

We were awarded a Local Places for Nature – Connector Grant in Autumn 2024 by Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. This has been used to create new hedges along parts of the common boundary and for biodiversity habitat improvements in the area. This project has been supported by the Local Nature Partnership with Funding from the Welsh Government

We continue to link with our twinned community in Livre Sur Changeon and some of their residents attended our summer event in the village

We produce a newsletter twice each year for the local community.

4.6.Policies

We developed and approved a social media policy in June 2025.

An annual review of our safeguarding policy was completed in November 2024
