Aims and Objectiv

2. The main aclivilies we undertske are as sei do￿￿ in this siatement. The Truslees have considered the
Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit and are satisfied that the Cbarity's aims and
activities meei Ihe criieria sel.
Achievements and Pcrformance
l. In our view. the band has mel all objectives and in many respects we hav¢ achieved perfornlance
well in excess ofthose objectives.
2. Our view is evidenced by:
Many concerts during ihe reporting year, both the Silv¢r Band, Training Band Ènd joint
bands, WAth a totsl audience estimated to be in excess of several thousand.
b. Two bands from CSB attended the West of Enblland Rcgional Contcst in March. and Ihe
Silver Band attended the local the Glou¢estershire Bross Band A$sociation Contest in
November.
The Silver Band rehearses twice a week tbroughout the year.
d. We confinrjed our Lommitm¢nl lo providing learner tuition, both in groups and as
individuals, through the establishment of a wcckly Leamer Band rehearsal on Monday
cvenin& routinely attended by a dozcn or more membeTS.
People of all ages joining the band lo ltram to play. we have new members still at Primary
school and others who are ot retirement agc.
f. Training band rehcarse each friday evening where p)ssible- often with up to 30 players in a
rehearsal.
Strueture. Gov¢rD*nee and Mllnagement
l. Cheltenham Silver Band adopted a constitution that mects all the guidelines given by the Charities
Convnission when il registered &s a Charitsble incorporaled organisalion (CIO) on 3 Jun¢ 2021.
2. Truslees are appointed tor a term of 3 year by a resolution passed at a properly ¢onv¢ned meeting of
the charity trustees.

3. In addition, we appoint a MusicaI Director for each Ban(L who is responsible for ¢onductin&'
rehearsals, the selection of music and the band's concert and contest perf0m￿nceS.
4. Cheltenham Silver Band is chaired by one management committcc, made up of Silver Band and
Training Band members. The Committec is res￿nsIble for the day to day running of all actLVLtics.

2. Th¢ charity also perfomts using the name Chellenham Silv¢r Training Band. Cheltenbam Silver
Learner Band, and Cheltenham Aeademy Band when this Lyroup of playcrs is hired as an entity or
forniing a5 an entity, although all players are membcrs ofchelteuham Silver Band.

Finanei%l Report
l. Tncome and Expenditure by category are summarised in the Accounts for the Year to 24 March
2024 on pages 6 & 7.
2. A ring-fenced grant of £50,000 from the Charles Irving Trnst was received by Chelt¢nbam
Silver Band. Clwity No 1163618, during thc financial year ending 24 March 2020 to fund a

long-tenn rehearsal venue for the band. This w&s transferred to Cheltenham Silver Band,
Charity Number 1194662 during the financial year ended 24 March 2024. As ofyet our search
ror a venue has noi been fruitful and the complete £50.000 remains ring-fenced.
3. A further grant of £4,000 was received by Cheltenham Sllver Band, Charity No 1163618, in the
period ending 24 March 2019 from the Charles Irving Trust in support of ille a[￿val Musical
Showcase- now renamed "The SIT Charles Irving Musical Showcasc" The remaining fijnds
were IiansfeJr¢d to Cheltenharn Silvcr Band, Charity NumiK"r 1194662 durin¥) Ihe finanLial year
ended 24 March 2024. These funds are ring-fenced for the sole purpose of running the
Showcase. including awards, room hire. refreshmenls and any other expenses solely attributhble
lo the Showcase. We expect this granl lo be sufficient to run the Showcase for l O years or more.
We did nol incuT any expenses for a show¢&se this ycar.
4. Our fmanclal position has remained reasonably stalic and our reserves remain sulTicienl for
most contingencies. Our aim is lo retain sufficient for onc year's Tunning costs plus the
cxpected annual deficit of £1,000 to £2,000 Telatingb to increased rehearsal space hire until we
move into new long-lerni aLcommodatic>n. Within the running costs reserve thcrc is
coiiting)ency for the hire of suitable storagic for Ihe band's JSSLts should ihe band cease to
operate. until the trustees reforni the band or decide to dissolve the band and sell or distribute
the assets for the benefil of the Chellenham community.

Statement of Assets and Liabilities

Grant from Charles Irving Trust
A grant of £50,000 w&% reccived by Cheltenham Silver Band, Charity No 1163618.
during the fLnan¢ial year cndtng 24 March 2020 from the Charles IrvinL¥ Trust to assist
with costs of future long-tcnn accommodation. This was transfe￿ed to Chelienham
Silver Band, Charity Number 1194662 during the financial year cnded 24 March 2024.
'rhe full amounl will be spent on expenses in association with long-lenn accommodation.
Grant from Charles Irving Tn￿t
A grant of £4,000 was received in April 2018 by Cheltenham Silver Band, Charity No
1163618, during the financial year ended 24 March 2019 from the Charlcs Irving Trust to
fund an annual Musical Showcase for all the trainees in the band. The remaining funds
were transferred to Cheltenham Silver Band, Charily Number l 194662 during the
flnancial year ended 24 March 2024. The grant is treated as Testrictcd as it can only be
used for expenditure specifically identified as room hire, refreshments, medals and
cerlificatcs associalcd with the Showcase.

No remuneration directly or indirectly out of the funds of th¢ Charity w&s paid or payable
for the period to any TNstee.
No r¢imbuTsement olpersonal expenses has been made or is due to be made to any of the

During the year ended 24 March 2024. the c&sh assets of Cheltenham Silver Band,
Charity Number 1163618 were transferred to this charity.
Assets retained for the Charity'$ own use
Assets retained for the d)arity's own use are the instruments, music and unifOrn￿ owned
by the band. Replacemenl cosls are identified in our insurance policy as c£94,000, which
is the estimated cost of replaeemenl although sale costs would be lower as the music and
uniforms have a negligible resale value. Consequently no value is placed on these assets
in the Statell￿nt of Assets and Liabilities. A full list of band ownd instnllnents is set out
below. All assets are securely stored when not in use.
