Trustees' Report for the period to 24 March 2022

Aims and Objectives

1. Our constitution states that our object as a charity is

“To advance the participation, education and appreciation of the general public of all ages in the art and science of brass band music in Cheltenham, wider Gloucestershire and the South West through the provision of rehearsal facilities, instrument loan and tuition and by participation in concerts and contests.”

1. The main activities we undertake are as set down in this statement. The Trustees have considered the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit and are satisfied that the Charity’s aims and activities meet the criteria set.

Achievements and Performance

1. In our view, the band has met all objectives and in many respects we have achieved performance well in excess of those objectives.

2. Our view is evidenced by:

3. a. Many concerts during the reporting year, both the main band, training band and joint bands, with a total audience estimated to be in excess of several thousand.

4. b. People of all ages joining the band to learn to play; we have new members still at Primary school and others who are of retirement age.

5. c. We returned to evening rehearsals after the lifting of Covid restrictions during the year.

6. d. We also returned to learner tuition, both as a group and to individuals.

7. e. Training band rehearse each Friday evening where possibl ~~e,~~ often with up to 30 players in a rehearsal.

Structure, Governance and Management

1. Cheltenham Silver Band adopted a constitution that meets all the guidelines given by the Charities Commission when it registered as a Charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) on 3[rd] June 2021.

2. Trustees are appointed for a term of 3 year by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees.

3. In addition, the band appoints a Musical Director, who is responsible for conducting rehearsals, the selection of music and the band’s concert and contest performances.
