STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Companions of the Mosque is a Charitable Trust governed by a Trust Deed dated 28th Feb 2021. The Trust registered with Charity Commission on 2nd June 2021. There are currently three trustees. In this period Companions of the Mosque did not have any employees. The trustees have decided to move the charity financial year end from 31st March to 31st December.

MAIN OBJECTIVES

Our main objectives include: Advance the Islamic faith for the benefit of the public, Advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the general public, and in particular the Muslim community, promote such other charitable purposes as may from time to time be determined.

ANNUAL ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE REVIEW

All the below activities are provided free of charge to Muslims & Non-Muslims.

1. Eid in the Park

We carry out Eid in The Park event twice a year for Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adha where we organise with the cooperation of the Local Council and Police the Eid Salah for approx 1,500 people and Sermon afterwards. During this event, we also organise activities for children with bouncy castles, henna tattoos, face paintings and free ice creams.

2. Jumuah (Friday Prayers)

We provide Jumuah prayer service and Sermon every Friday at Thomas Wall Centre to serve Sutton and the surrounding congregation despite not having a Masjid of our own.

3. Taraweeh (Ramadan Nightly Prayers)

We provide Taraweeh prayer service (8 Rakats) in the Month of Ramadan where various reciters will recite the Quran and then give a brief explanation of the chapters they recite at the beginning or end of the prayers.

5. Achievements

During the height of the Covid-19, Companions of the Mosque and the local Muslim GP’s organised an evening vaccination clinic during Ramadan. This was most helpful and most needed services to our community serving those who believed they cannot receive vaccine while fasting. The service was provided on 16th and 30th April 2020, by health professional team led by our GP’s, Dr Kashif Aziz and Dr Saqib Ayub.

The make shift clinic was also visited by The RT Hon Nadhim Zahawi MP (currently Chancellor of the Exchequer) on behalf of Department of Health & Social Care and a signed Thank You letter was presented to Companions of the Mosque, the GP’s and Volunteers.

AIMS/OBJECTIVES FOR COMING YEAR

As well as continuing the projects initiated this year we hope to build on our support work and provided targeted support to those in need In-Sha-Allah.

Our priority for next year will be to formally register with the HMRC for Gift Aid, and then submit claims for Gift Aid for the voluntary Donations given by Donors.

On accounts for the period 28[th] February 2021 to 31 December 2021 - Set out on page 5 & 6.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Act and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

Basis of independent examiner's report

My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner's statement

In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

RESERVE POLICY

We currently have adequate reserves to ensure operational costs are covered for the coming year. Currently no particular figure is set as a reserve fund, but the trustees have adequate financial expertise to monitor the spending of funds.

PUBLIC BENEFIT STATEMENT

The Trustees confirm that they are aware of and have shown due regard to Charity Commission's guidance regarding Public Benefit. This is taken into consideration when establishing new projects undertaken by the Trustees.

Every project undertaken is regularly monitored to ensure that the beneficial outcomes to the recipients are adequately recorded.
