Para 1.20 | £15,376 was granted to WE REACH in Kakamega, Kenya, to fund its Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme in junior schools in Mumias Sub- County. The programme included sensitising the Head Teachers and Boards of Management regarding their rights and obligations regarding WASH policies and guidelines set out by the Kenya Government. It also encouraged the schools to set up health clubs to teach the students about WASH, in particular cleanliness and hygiene. Reduction in waterborne diseases has been dramatic amongst the students leading to a reduction in absenteeism of over 70%. |
