The Battle Back Golf initiative has operated for a number of years under the governance of United Kingdom Armed Forces Sports Control Board (Charity Number 1123854). Following a decoupling on 21[st] May 2021 Battle Back Golf was established as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
The Trustees present their inaugural report and the financial statements for the year ended 31[st] October 2022. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out on page 9 and comply with the charity’s constitution, the Charities Act 2011 and the Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (FRS 102): Accounting and Reporting by Charities 2019.
Structure, Governance and Management
The Trustees meet four times a year and review the broad strategy and areas of activity for Battle Back Golf. The day-to-day administration and management of the charity is devolved to a Chair who is remunerated with a small honorarium. The Chair conducts the Charity’s governance through a committee of volunteers which, includes rehabilitation specialists, Battle Back Golf beneficiaries and Trustees.
The Trustees keep the skill requirement under review and in the event of a trustee retiring, or an additional member being required, they may be sought from within the membership of Battle Back Golf or externally based on specific needs of the charity.
The charity operates a low-risk financial strategy and is based around ‘receipts and payments’ accounting. It supports its members based on income over and above the charity’s reserve.
All Trustees shall have a copy of the charity’s constitution together with a copy of the Charity Commission’s guidance ‘Responsibilities of Charity Trustees’. The Battle Back Golf committee operate under the Battle Back Golf Charter which provides direction and guidance in line with the Trustees’ vision and the charity’s constitution. The committee hold quarterly meetings on behalf of the Trustees as well as an AGM where all members are encouraged to attend.
Public Benefit
The Trustees confirm that they have paid due regard to the guidance given by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
Objectives and Activities
The objectives of Battle Back Golf are to deliver golfing education programmes and competitive opportunities to wounded, injured and sick Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force personnel and veterans, using golf as part of their physical and cognitive rehabilitation:

Physically . Through a series of progressive structured and semi-structured player-centred golf lessons and courses, players are taught the fundamentals of golf and more experienced players can develop their current game in a purposeful but fun way.

Psychological . Aims to increase the cognitive wellbeing of its members through the medium of golf. Exploiting all the documented psychological benefits that golf offers and provide its members with a diverse, socially inclusive environment to rehabilitate mentally as well as physically.
Achievements and Performance
The charity’s evolution into a Charitable Incorporated Organisation during the height of the Covid 19 pandemic, coupled with the vulnerability of many of its members meant that Battle Back Golf had to reduce its schedule of events for 2021[1] . That said, the charity was able to provide 14 scheduled events including a

Battle Back Golf Championship in which 40 members were in attendance. Of the charity’s 92 members[2] it is estimated circa 80 benefitted from the various events throughout the season.
The 2021 – 2022 season saw Battle Back Golf return to its regular full schedule of events. This included 23 matches against golf clubs around the country and 2 coaching courses which supported 16 Battle Back Golf members. There was also an overseas tour to Torre Del Mar, Spain where 18 Battle Back Golf members competed against various Spanish golf organisations. There were 2 internal competitions open to all members, the later was the flagship event Battle Back Golf Masters. Combined, these 2 competitions were attending by 85 Battle Back Golf members. With an active membership of 112 members[3] , Battle Back Golf is surpassing expectations in achieving its objectives and continues to see new members integrated into the Charity on a regular basis. The 2022/2023 season promises to be as exciting and productive as the previous season and the trustees look forward to seeing Battle Back Golf flourish.

Financial Review
Battle Back Golf continued to receive donations throughout the financial year ensuring the charity’s finances remained sound; enabling core business to continue.
Cash at bank as of 31[st] October 22 was £52,240.66[4] in unrestricted funds. Much of Battle Back Golf’s success relies on the ‘grace and favour’ of the golfing industry and as such can operate with very little overheads and within tight parameters. The Trustees maintain a reserve of £40,000 to be reviewed annually. This provides a level of assurance to cover the immediate future requirements of the charity, enabling it to meet all management and administration costs of the charity as and when they arise.
The charity’s principal source of funding is donations from golf clubs and individual donations.
Risk Management
Battle Back Golf Trustees have examined the major strategic business and operational risks which the charity could face and have systems and contingency measures in place to minimise risks to as low as practicably possible.
Plans for the future
Now that the charity is well established and thanks to the hard work of the Battle Back Golf committee the charity plans to increase its profile by updating the website, as well as exploring various fundraising platforms. It will continue to strive to provide support the Battle Back Golf community by increasing its network of beneficiaries and supporters through increased diversity within its membership and by expanding its reach throughout the UK.

STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES’ RESPONSIBILITIES
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 OCTOBER 2022
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that year. In preparing these financial statements, the Trustees are required to:

Select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently.

Observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP.

Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent.

Prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis under the assumption that the charitable company will continue operations for the foreseeable future.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011 and the regulations made thereunder. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Principle accounting policies
The principal accounting policies adopted, judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty in the preparation of the accounts are laid out below:
Accounting convention
Basis of Accounting . The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable to the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019) – (Charities SORP (FRS 102)), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).
Going concern
Having considered future budgets and cash flows, the Trustees remain confident in the ability of the charity to continue in operation as a going concern given the current cash balance and the trustees’ discretion over all spending, which can be adjusted based on the profile of donations received.
Income
Donation income is accounted for on receipt of the donation. All income is included in the Statement of Financial Activities when the charity’s entitlement to the income is probable, and the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy.
Expenditure
All expenditure is from unrestricted funds and included in the Statement of Financial Activities.
