THE HOTHOUSE AT REDHOUSE
REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2024
The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2024. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The charity's objects are to advance the Christian faith and the education of children and young people in particular by the provision of a safe environment for them to gather for educational, recreational and other leisure time activities so as to develop their physical, mental and spiritual capacities that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society and their conditions of life may be improved.
The trustees have paid due regard to guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit and feel that this has been achieved by their efforts to maximise the trust's income and provide its services to the local community.
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities
2024 has been an encouraging year as the charity looks to the future and starts to embrace preparations for change. The programme continued to provide regular contact with local young people and families on the Redhouse which developed through the year.
The second encouragement in 2024 was the development of the work with local teenagers. A core of teenagers met regularly at weekly youth meetings
The third exciting development during 2024 was the new and growing link with Walsall Council. This has been a stimulus to the Charity and brought new funding streams to 'help make things happen'. We were happy to partner with the Council which funded a 'Warm Welcome' space through the winter for local people to drop in, We expect this synergy to develop further in 2025.
Staff Changes and Development
The Hothouse welcomed a couple of volunteers who have moved onto the estate and feel that God has called them to work at the Hothouse. Volunteers like these are a great asset to the central team in delivering 'care for the community in Jesus' name'.
December 2024 saw the conclusion of a happy and fruitful period of ministry by Ella Morley, our employed part-time Team Member, who pioneered recent outreach to Teenagers, alongside activities for parents, carers and toddlers. We reviewed the brief and advertised for a post (or job share) and received 4 expressions of interest in being interviewed in early 2025 - these new appointments will help shape the next chapter of Hothouse activities..
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position
The Charity has been well supported by the local church and local charities in 2024 - to a greater extent than expected. During the year, Walsall Council funding for specific pieces of work became significant financial support and enabled us to run projects which fitted our vision and were a blessing in the community. There is a growing list of modest projects coming onstream in 2025, and we are part of these conversations
The charity also continues to raise funds itself - for example, through the Aldridge Charity Run - and we have tightened our belts where possible - to become more efficient at how we use the funds we receive.
The Trustees are grateful for the goodwill and support of local people and we are most grateful to the Lord for blessing these initiatives.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF THE HOTHOUSE AT REDHOUSE
Independent examiner's report to the trustees of The Hothouse At Redhouse ('the Company')
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 31 December 2024.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity's trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').
Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity's accounts as carried out under Section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('the 2011 Act'). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:
-
accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of the 2006 Act; or
-
the accounts do not accord with those records; or
-
the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or
-
the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)).
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
