|Achievements against
objectives set|Para 1.41|Whilst no formal objectives are set for any
given period, the Trustees are always
looking to increase fundraising for SeBPRA
and looking for alternative ways of doing
this to retain existing supporters whilst also
attracting new supporters who have not
previously donated or do not do so
regularly.
We work tirelessly to rehome as many dogs
as practical and safe to do so and aim to
increase the number year on year.
In 2024 a total of 142 dogs were adopted.
Rehoming continues to be challenging due
to changing legislation and import
requirements. Rehoming dogs from abroad
has also received some negative press
from various media outlets.|
|---|---|---|
|Performance of fundraising
activities against objectives
set|Para 1.41|With adoption numbers similar levels seen
in 2021-22. This resulted in continued
increased shelter costs as supply continues
to outstrip demand. In addition, there were
a number of failed adoptions during the
year, where adopters circumstances
changed, which has resulted in additional
kennelling costs until a new home could be
found. There were also cases of new
adoptions with unforeseen medical issues
which resulted in additional veterinary
costs.
We do our utmost to minimise these costs
by arranging adoptions in a timely manner,
unfortunately the demand to rehome dogs|

Fundraising in general has
become increasingly difficult due to the
general economical situation.
Merchandise sales have also reduced as a
result of streamlining products to offer a
more sustainable range. As a result the
new products have required much more
time and effort to launch and attract a
premium due to the increased cost of
buying natural and sustainable products.|

## **Financial Review**

|Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period|Para 1.21|At the year end the charity had £45,171 in
the bank. This was £7,674 more than at the
previous year end. We see this as a
positive as we have met our obligations to
our dogs and still been able to maintain a
healthy balance to cover any unexpected
expenses. However, we are also concious
this money could be utilised to further the
charities goals and we are looking at ways
the money could be used for this.
We have also seen a number of failed
adoptions which have incurred costs from
providing emergency kennelling and from
unforeseen veterinary costs.
We continue to monitor the cash position of
the charity to ensure enough reserves are
kept. We aim to identify any potential future
threats to cashflow and adjust our
fundraising efforts to suit to minimise any
potential effects.|
|---|---|---|
|Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held|Para 1.22|Reserves are kept to ensure we are able to
cover any emergency costs that may arise
whilst a dog is in the rescue, specifically
unforeseen veterinary costs. They may also
be used where an adoption fails and
emergency accommodation is required for
the dog.
The level of reserves required is yet to be
determined, but we aim to keep a minimum
of £10,000 to cover any unforeseen costs
which may arise.|

|The charity’s principal
sources of funds (including
any fundraising)|Para 1.47|The charity’s principal source of funds is from
adoption fees and fundraising/merchandise
sales amongst our Facebook community and
members of the general public.
The adoption fees remain around 75% of income
and help us provide support to the dogs
currently in the shelter and cover all their welfare
and veterinary costs.|

|||The funds raised from fundraising activities and
merchandise sales accounts for 7%, which really
helps to cover an unforeseen costs that may
arise i.e. failed adoption requiring emergency
shelter in the UK.
10% of fund received are in donations in the
form of one off donations or monthly recurring
donations. |Investment policy and
objectives including any
social investment policy
adopted|Para 1.46|N/A|
|A description of the principal
risks facing the charity|Para 1.46|Risk 1
Lack of adopters – The UK dog shelters are still
very full post covid and we therefore see a
reduction in good applications. The charity has
not compromised on the adoption requirements,
so the number of dogs imported has reduced,
however as a breed rescue we do not have to
compete directly with UK dog shelters
fortunately, but more with UK dog breeders.
However the risk of a lack of adopters is still an
ongoing concern.
Plan
To identify any potential outlets where dogs
could be advertised that is not currently being
used.
To review our website and facebook pages to
ensure they are optimised to receive maximum
traffic.
Develop a greater platform on other social media
including Instagram to attract a potential
adopters from a wider audience.
Risk 2
Fundraising – Our costs are increasing due to
inflation and also our decision to increase our
disease testing over and above any legal
requirements, meanwhile our supporters are
also feeling the effects of high inflation and the
cost of living crisis, so it is becoming increasingly
more challenging to raise the funds required.
Plan|

We aim to undertake a similar events to those that have worked well previously including Great North Run, SeBPRAthon, coffee mornings, auctions and quizzes. An ongoing review of all our merchandise is to be undertaken to ensure each item offers value for money whilst still helping the charity raise funds. To reduce our stock inventory where possible to minimise costs and work with suppliers who can supply items on demand. To approach adopters to see if they wish to cover any of our additional costs not included within the adoption fee i.e. brucella testing. Risk 3 Import of dogs – the charity faces risk in the constantly evolving nature of the rules and additional costs to import the dogs to the UK following the change in rules post Brexit. Plan To review all government communications regarding import of dogs to the UK. Continue in our efforts of providing our feedback to the relevant government departments on their proposals. To review our operational processes where changes occur to ensure compliance. Risk 4 As the charity has grown the working structure has evolved and the breed teams work more independently of each other. The charity needs to ensure the management and communication is effective. Plan To perform a review of the structure to ensure the charity is operating in the most efficient manner. N/A Other

## **SeBPRA AUDITORS REPORT 2024**

## **1. Introduction**

I have completed an independent examination of the 2024 SeBPRA accounts. The main objective of the examination was to provide the Trustees of SeBPRA with reasonable assurance over the accuracy of the Annual Accounts and to provide an independent review of the financial transactions for the period 1 January to 31 December 2023.

## **2. Method**

The Treasurer provided me with electronic data exports for the year including all bank account transactions and Paypal account transactions for the period from 1/1/24 to 31/1/24. The records were checked for validity, reasonableness, accuracy, completeness and timeliness. A selection of transactions were randomly chosen and traced to the source banking documents, and the opening and closing balances were reconciled.

## **3. Audit Opinion**

In my opinion the Accounts accurately represent the financial position of SeBPRA as at 31 December 2024.

## **4. Findings and Recommendations**

The completeness and accuracy of the records supporting the Accounts are good and detailed.

The detailed bank transaction spreadsheet categorised each income and cost line into the relevant areas, and reconciled to the opening and closing Natwest and Paypal balances.

I selected a number of transactions at random for further review and all transactions were backup up by supporting documents and invoices.

There is no finance policy in place.

**Recommendation:** Trustees should agree a finance policy to be implemented. It would also be good practice to have reserves and fundraising policies in place also. Whilst I believe these are discussed there is no formal document in place at present.

There is no formal Risk Register in place.

**Recommendation:** Prepare and agree a risk register. A traffic light system is useful to identify the level of risk. This should be reviewed and discussed by the trustees together with financial reports at least on an annual basis.
