## @2K Theatre

Registered Charity Number 1194499

Unit 3, Taunton Station, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 1QP

## Trustees Report for the year ending 30th September 2024

## **Objectives**

The objectives of the Charity are to promote the advancement and improvement of general education in relation to all aspects of the art of drama and the development of public appreciation of such art by giving performances in Somerset West and Taunton and neighbourhood. Our intention is to bring theatre to those communities to whom it would otherwise be inaccessible.

## **Activities undertaken for the public benefit**

In planning our activities for the year, we kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit at our committee/trustee meetings. Our main activity remains the staging of live theatrical events and outreach to the area of Somerset West and Taunton.

## **Review of activities**

Since our last report in September 2023, our theatre performances have included the following Oct – Nov 2023 – The Good Life, performed at local theatre and village halls Mar 2024 – Three one act plays performed at a local one act play festival Apr 2024 – Touring of two one act plays to local village halls and our own venue July 2024 – Performance of one act play at local hall Nov 2024 – Lady in the van, performed at local theatre and village halls

We have run several play reading evenings at our own venue, encouraging participation of members and other local groups. This has informed decisions on future productions as well as encouraging social activities and outreach to other local theatre groups.

We hosted a lighting workshop, run by a local stage lighting company. We encouraged other groups to attend, a lively discussion was held where we learn how to operate lighting desks and how to mount and wire up stage lights.

We have invested in extra staging and related equipment, this has enabled us to give audiences a better view of the stage, and also allowed us to extend stages in some of the smaller venues which we have visited.

We have invested in some more lighting equipment, which has enabled us to light our shows more easily, and to create better lighting effects and eliminate shadows.

## **Financial Review**

The reserves of the Charity are held in the form of unrestricted funds. At 30 September 2024 these amounted to £8,119 (2023 - £11,562). The drop in reserves was due to unavoidable spend on building repair and lighting equipment upgrades. It is the policy of the Trustees to retain sufficient liquid fundsto meet normal cash flow requirements and to fund capital projects.

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

The Charity was formed on 17 May 2021 as an unincorporated association. The day-to-day management of the Charity is governed by the Constitution, agreed Nov 2022

Trustees are selected from the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee is elected each year by the membership present at the Annual General Meeting, for a term of one year. Trustees holding office during this accounting period were:

Nicholas Gibbons (Chair) Mark Scribbins Marcus Palmer Jason Bowie Nikki Court David Northey Jane Burt Alan Coles
