OBJECTIVES & ACITITIES
Our objectives remain the same.
For the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of primarily, but not exclusively, elderly dogs, goats, sheep and ponies, in the Midlands, that have been abused, neglected or mistreated, by providing and maintaining a sanctuary for their reception, care and treatment.
To promote humane behaviour towards animals, by raising public awareness in matters pertaining to animal welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among animals.
The trustees have many years of experience in rescuing and caring for animals, within a sanctuary. Veterinary care is provided by local veterinarians with particular expertise in the animals the sanctuary cares for and the practices not only provides veterinary care, but also ongoing advice and professional support to the charity. The charity welcomes all volunteers, but its animal welfare policy has specific
requirements, to ensure both people and animals are kept safe, and provides initial induction, and on-the-job training and ongoing supervision.
The main aim of the charity is to ensure that the animals taken in are given the best possible treatment and are kept in the best possible accommodation suitable to that particular species of animal so that whatever the type of animal, dog, goat, sheep, pony, the needs, comfort, care and wellbeing of that animal are met and indeed exceeded. The contentment and happiness of all of the animals in the charity’s care is paramount.
The charity has a small band of experienced volunteers who fully understand the needs of the rescued animals in it’s care. They help with day to day tasks such as feeding the animals and keeping the barns and paddocks clean and maintained to a high standard. The charity has welcomed volunteers taking part in The Duke of Edinburgh Awards and actively encourages the young volunteers who are suitably supervised. They are encouraged to interact with the animals as well as taking part in
the more mundane tasks like ‘mucking out’.
## ACHIEVEMENTS
FENCING. Long stretches of fencing, as planned, were replaced. The wooden fence posts and rails had become rotted over time and we are pleased to report that much of the worst lengths have now been replaced ensuring the ongoing safety of the animals in our care.
VOLUNTEERS.
We are pleased to report that we have a small number of dedicated volunteers who strive, as we do, to look after the animals in our care to a very high standard.
## GOING FORWARD
REPAIR TO THE GOAT PEN ROOF. All sections of the sky lights in the indoor/outdoor area of the goat roof are starting to leak through deterioration due to the age of these panels. We aim to have all the panels replaced and any areas of the roof that has deteriorated, made good.
## DIVIDING ‘GATES’ IN THE BARN.
The ponies and sheep share a very large Barn. The present metal dividers,
which give the sheep an area that the ponies do not have access to which
enables the sheep to have their own feeding area, need replacing. These will
need to be ‘half gates’ which the sheep can get under but the ponies cannot.
These gates will need to be opening gates to allow the Barn to be cleaned out with ease.
## GATE POSTS AND NEW GATEWAYS.
Lots of the gate posts are becoming rotted and also new
gateways need to be created to allow better access in various areas to make cleaning out easier
for helpers and volunteers.
## FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES.
We aim to do more fundraising events and bring in new ideas for fundraising activities
and events
## VOLUNTEERS & FUNDRAISERS. We still strive to increase volunteer numbers through
events such as our main Open Day which we hope will lead to more people willing to fundraise for the charity.
COMMUNITY GROUPS. Our aim is to encourage more community groups to visit i.e. WI Organisations, School Groups, equally to raise funds for the charity and also to raise awareness of how to properly care for animals especially amongst the young. We need better facilities to enable us to better welcome such groups and this is something we will strive to achieve in the future.
OUR ETHOS. This remains the same, to help as many unwanted, ill treated animals as possible whilst maintaining and not compromising on our very high welfare standards and to give the animals that come our way happy, contented, tranquil lives free from fear and neglect. Also, through education where possible, raise awareness of the needs and correct care of all animals.
On a final note, everyone’s time is given freely at the sanctuary for all day to day activities such as feeding, cleaning out, vet trips and all the other activities that are needed to give all the ‘residents’ at the sanctuary the best possible care, comfort, love and attention. We go to great lengths to ensure that the animals, where needed, are rehabilitated with however much time, patience and understanding is necessary to give them the quality of life that they all deserve and to make sure that this is maintained for the remainder of their lives.

For the financial year ending 11 March 2023 the charity was entitled to exemption from audit under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.
## Directors' responsibilities:
- The members have not required the charity to obtain an audit of its accounts for the year in question in accordance with section 476; and
- The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.
For the financial year ending 11 March 2023 the charity was entitled to exemption from audit under section 480 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to dormant companies.
