**Reflect Church Trustees' Report For The Year Ended 31 March 2025**

The trustees present their report and the financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2025.

## **Objectives and Activities**

## **Aims and Objectives**

Our objectives and aims are to advance the Christian faith in accordance with the statement of faith throughout England for the benefit of the public mainly but not exclusively through the provision of a place of worship, the holding of prayer meetings, religious education and to provide outreach and pastoral care for the community.

## **Public Benefit**

The trustees confirm that they have complied with the requirements of Section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.

## **Achievements and Performance**

## **Main Achievements**

Our charitable activities this year have been consistent with the prior year with Sunday services, children’s and youth programmes running. We continued to be primarily based in the Docklands and in February 2025 introduced a second service in the afternoon to better accommodate the needs of congregants. The Balham location continued to operate as a ‘micro church’ with a more relaxed and informal style.

In May 2024, we sponsored two trustees and a key volunteer to attend the C3 Global Conference in Singapore in May 2024. This conference is hosted by the global body of which Reflect Church is a part of and was a valuable investment in our core team. The charity has benefited from the relationships that have been built with churches across Europe particularly in the areas of leadership and planning for growth.

## **Safeguarding**

We have policies and procedures in place regarding safeguarding to ensure the best possible protection and care for children and adults. This includes a Safeguarding Children Policy, Safeguarding Adults Policy, introducing Safer Recruitment procedures around employment and ensuring safeguarding training for all staff and volunteers working with children and youth. We continue to be a member of ThirtyOne:Eight, one of the UK’s leading independent safeguarding specialists. Along with our Designated Safeguarding Officer, we also have a trustee dedicated to overseeing safeguarding.

## **Financial Review**

## **Financial Position**

Giving in FY25 remained consistent with FY24, providing a stable income base for the charity. As in the prior year, expenditure slightly exceeded income. In FY25, overall expenditure was lower than in prior year, primarily reflecting the absence of one-off refurbishment costs incurred in FY24 when the charity first moved into the Docklands location. However, these savings were partially offset by increased rental costs in FY25 which were expected under the agreed lease terms at the Docklands location.

Despite the small deficit in both years, the charity remains financially stable, with sufficient reserves at year end. The trustees continue to monitor income and expenditure closely through quarterly board meetings.

## **Reserves Policy**

The trustees have set a reserves target of £15,000 which would cover over a month of expenses including venue, salary costs, and other necessary expenses. At year end, unrestricted reserves exceeded this level.

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

## **Governing Document**

Reflect Church is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, charity number 1194463. The charity operates in accordance with its constitution, which sets out the charity’s objects and the powers of the trustees.

## **Trustee Selection Methods**

Trustees appointed as outlined in the charity's constitution:

(1) Apart from the first charity trustees, every trustee must be appointed for a term of 1.5 years by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees.

(2) In selecting individuals for appointment as charity trustees, the charity trustees must have regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO. The process of appointing new trustees includes an analysis of the current needs of the charity, a conversation with prospective appointments about potential fit and specific role as well as an interview. Any decisions around the appointment of Trustees will be recorded in relevant meeting minutes.

No appointments to or resignations from the board of trustees occurred during the financial year

## **Reflect Church Trustees' Report (continued) For The Year Ended 31 March 2025**

## **Statement of Trustees' Responsibilities**

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).

The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period. In preparing the financial statements the trustees are required to:

- select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;

observe the methods and principles in the Charity SORP;

- make judgments and accounting estimates that are reasonable and prudent; and

- prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business.

The trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at anytime the financial position of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the accounts comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the trust deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

The trustees are responsible for the maintenance and integrity of the corporate and financial information included on the charity's website. Legislation in the United Kingdom governing the preparation and dissemination of financial statements may differ from legislation in other jurisdictions.

The trustees' report was approved by the board of trustees and signed on its behalf by:

## **Reflect Church Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Reflect Church For The Year Ended 31 March 2025**

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Reflect Church (the Trust) for the year ended 31 March 2025.

## **Responsibilities and Basis of Report**

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

## **Independent Examiner's Statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and contents of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair view' which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
