**Annual Report**

## **EXECUTIVE SUMMARY**

We want to express our deep appreciation for every person who has been so integral in this first year of getting C3 Reflect off the ground. For every small act of faith, warmth, appreciation, encouragement and generosity - a huge thank you! Without you, none of this would have been possible.

This annual report is a snapshot overview of our first year as a church (and a registered charity). We wanted to start as we mean to go on - with Jesus at the centre (obviously ;D). Our intention is to create authentic community, healthy leadership and transparency about pretty much everything.

Part of that has been about a change of emphasis felt globally across the Church. We’ve been moving from high energy and glitzy performance to the simple wonder of enjoying God and one another.

We’ve preached more on rest. We’ve allowed our souls to slow down. Personally, we’ve made more room for our most important ministry - our family. And we’re better people and pastors for it. Because as Jesus says, what good is it to accomplish everything if we lose ourselves in the process? (Luke 9:25 - our paraphrase).

Year one has been all about setting the foundations. Let the future begin.

Sats & Emma Solanki Lead Pastors, C3 Reflect

## **The Story So Far**

## **June 2021**

## C3 Reflect is now registered with the Charities Commission

We make the decision to plant C3 Reflect out of an existing multi-site church formerly known as Hope City in the midst of the pandemic. Special thanks to Ben Morris from Solvr who went above and beyond in helping us through the legal process of setting up the charity and much of the practical work required.

## **September 2021** Team Rallies begin

Our first in-person gatherings begin in Shoreditch & Balham every month. They’re minimalist to say the least but it feels good to be in the room again and worship together.

## **November 2021**

Big news - we announce the move to the Docklands

The desire for a local church has been growing for some time and we sense God telling us to move our Shoreditch location further east to the Docklands. We’re walking away from an established venue but we believe God has a space ready for us.

## **January 2022**

Sunday services begin fortnightly

## **February 2021** Sign for a new space with Expressway

With days to spare, God leads us to our new home (for now) in the Docklands at the Good Hotel. Is a floating platform a boat? Our team thinks so. We continue to meet at Endlesham Hall in Balham.

We put our feet down in the Docklands by hiring a small studio unit which we use as a base. This works well for filming video content, small meetings and space for volunteers,

## **The future**

## Watch this space

The journey is only just starting but we’re excited about all God has in store for us as C3 Reflect.

**2021-2022**

## **BRANDING Annual Report**

## BRANDING

## **THE POWER OF FOCUS**

This first year has been crucial in establishing the C3 Reflect brand so that we can easily and clearly communicate our vision for the future. We’ve done that by being deliberate in crafting our visual identity as well as our vision statements. This has helped form the basis of everything we do as a church from digital strategy to children’s ministry.

## **OUR NAME**

The word Reflect speaks both of the external desire to showcase the glory of God through creativity, art and beauty as well as the internal importance of reflection and rest that creates space for a healthy soul to flourish.

## **THE INFINITY ICON**

The Infinity icon is perhaps one of the best symbols to express the eternal nature, perfection and wonder of God. But it also speaks to this ongoing process of renewal, transformation and creativity that those who follow Jesus find themselves on. The symmetry in the symbol perfectly aligns with the concept of reflection.

## **Vision Statement**

OUR VISION IS TO HELP PEOPLE

**Connect into community**

**Transform into the image of Christ Influence the world**

**2021-2022**

## **LOCAL**

## **Annual Report**

## LOCAL

If the pandemic has taught us anything, it is that we need each other. In many ways the world got smaller and perhaps that’s not a bad thing. Neighbours turned out on the street to applaud local NHS heroes. Working from home became part of the fabric of society. And many realised the need for local community.

It was this growing desire that led us (under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit) to move from Shoreditch, a bubbling creative melting pot of youthful energy to the Docklands.

Perhaps the future of the church is not so mega as much as it is micro. Dinner Parties on every street. Church gatherings of 100 rather than 1000. A love for the local community. Jesus encouraged love to begin with your neighbour. Love starts close to home. Love starts local.

We’ve been deliberate about building a shape of church that fits a multi-location model. From the boroughs of the big smoke to the rural corners of the great British Isles - it’s early days but watch this space.

**VISION BUILDERS**

**2021-2022**

**Annual Report**

## VISION BUILDERS

In October 2021, we launched our first Vision Builders campaign. We wanted to engage the church in the process of launching services post-pandemic with three main goals:

- Launching weekly services in Shoreditch & Balham

- Growing our staff team

- Pushing the boundaries of digital evangelism

As part of this process, we shared very openly about the finance required to make this vision a reality. In this time we saw seven people commit to a total of £1,270 amount of giving/ month as well as £12,000 in one off gifts. Although this was about half way in achieving our goal, we were so grateful for every person who jumped on board to help move the vision forward.

As a result of your giving, we were able to add our first part time employee (strengthening our Spark Kids ministry) as well as continue to invest in CloudCut who supply all of our graphics & video needs in line with our digital strategy.

During this time, we also felt led by the Holy Spirit to move our Shoreditch location further east to the Docklands and we decided to move a step closer to regular gathering with fortnightly services.

## **LETTER FROM THE TRUSTEES**

## **Annual Report**

**Sats Solanki, Chair**

**Aidan Roberts, Trustee Angelica Too, Trustee**

Since becoming incorporated as a charity, C3 Reflect has grown financially and we ended the year with a surplus of £16,181.54. This puts us in a good starting position for the next financial year.

The first year of the charity has been of immense importance in setting a healthy foundation for the future. Much of our energy and focus has gone into creating organisational systems and establishing formal governance. Building a multi-site church has an additional layer of complexity but the upfront investment will pay off over time.

Over the next year, C3 Reflect will have some practical challenges to overcome as the church continues to build a culture of gathering and move towards weekly services. On a very practical level, more meetings equate to more cost but also more team and leaders will need to be trained and released.

We see many reasons to be positive about the future including a genuine hunger for discipleship, togetherness and health in the church. We’ll also be looking to add an additional Trustee over the next year to further strengthen the experience of our board.

As a registered charity, we have submitted our first year of detailed accounts and results of our independent examination to HMRC in addition to this report which can be viewed using the QR code.

**2021-2022**

## **C3 OVERSIGHT**

## **Annual Report**

What began as Christian Centre Northside, a humble gathering of 12 people on Sydney’s sunny Northern Beaches, has turned into C3 Church Global, an international movement of over 500 churches.

Ps Sats & Em say:

“We were officially ordained into C3 in 2021. Being connected to a wider family is such an important part of creating a healthy church. No man is an island and no pastor is invulnerable from the need for friendship, accountability and spiritual oversight.

We are blessed with spiritual oversight from Ps Thierry & Marianne Moehr who are Lead Pastors of C3 Lausanne, Switzerland as well as part of the Europe team serving Ps Steve & Lizby Warren. They ask us important (and hard) questions, they’re constant in warmth of encouragement and are always there if we need to pick up the phone. They’ve been essential in enabling this first year of C3 Reflect”

As part of our membership of C3 Church Global, we give 3% of our regular giving (excluding special offerings) to the regional office. This enables everything such as conferences, team training days, pastors gatherings and general running to take place.

You can find out more about C3 at c3churchglobal.com

**2021-2022**

## **FINAL THOUGHTS**

## **Annual Report**

If we’ve learnt anything in this last year, it’s that the Church is an essential part of human flourishing and healthy society. As our nation slowly emerges from the lingering impact of the pandemic (and response to it), it is our belief that many more people will open their hearts to God and be drawn into his house.

Jesus told his disciples that the harvest was ready and to pray for workers to rise. And then he sent them out in answer to their own prayer. As we take stock of all God has done,

let us be encouraged to lift our eyes and our faith once again.

This is not the time for shrinking back but for the follower of Jesus to rise into everything God has prepared. May souls be saved, disciples be made and communities be transformed in these next years.

Thank you for playing your part in the wonderful story that is C3 Reflect.

## **Report of the Trustees for the Period 14 May 2021 to 31 March 2022**

The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the period 14 May 2021 to 31 March 2022. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

## **INCORPORATION**

The charitable company was incorporated on 14 May 2021 and commenced trading on the same date.

## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES**

## **Objectives and aims**

Our objectives and aims are to advance the Christian faith in accordance with the statement of faith throughout England for the benefit of the public mainly but not exclusively through the provision of a place of worship, the holding of prayer meetings, religious education and to provide outreach and pastoral care for the community.

## **ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE**

## **Charitable activities**

The first year of the charity has been about setting the essential foundations and direction of C3 Reflect. This has included the appointment of Trustees, the development of vision & strategy and a visual identity that encapsulates both our essence and our future as a church.

Online has been an important space and focus for us following the pandemic and we have fostered an active teaching presence and evangelistic engagement across multiple online channels such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube & Email. Following this online activity, in-person Sunday church services began initially in September 2021 in two locations in London (Shoreditch & Balham). These were held monthly for four months and then grew into fortnightly gatherings from January 2022. At this time, the Trustees also made the decision to move the first location from Shoreditch to the Docklands to better serve the members of the church community.

We also secured a studio/office space in the Docklands in February 2022 from which we could create effective content as well as base our operations.

## Other notable activities include:

- our Spark Kids programme during our Sunday church services (and online) for children aged 2-10. In November 2021, we employed our first member of staff on a part time basis to lead the development of this in order to better serve families within the church community.

- Weekly Dinner Parties are hosted in homes across London where people can gather together (over 500 plates of food so far) and have the opportunity to connect with and practice their faith midweek.

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**

## **Reserves policy**

The Trustees estimate that £10,000 of reserves is sufficient. This amount would cover approximately just over a month of expenses including venue hire, office rent, salary costs, and other necessary expenses.

## **FUTURE PLANS**

In the next year, we anticipate that our Sunday church services will become weekly gatherings across both locations in the Docklands & Balham. This will be our primary focus and will be subject to detailed planning before hand to ensure adequate funding and volunteers are available.

## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT**

## **Governing document**

The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes a limited company, limited by guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006.

## **Report of the Trustees for the Period 14 May 2021 to 31 March 2022**

## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT Recruitment and appointment of new trustees**

Trustees appointed as outlined in the charity's constitution: (1) Apart from the first charity trustees, every trustee must be appointed for a term of 1.5 years by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees.

(2) In selecting individuals for appointment as charity trustees, the charity trustees must have regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO.

The process of appointing new trustees includes an analysis of the current needs of the charity, a conversation with prospective appointments about potential fit and specific role as well as an interview. Any decisions around the appointment of Trustees will be recorded in relevant meeting minutes.

**Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of C3 Reflect**

## **Independent examiner's report to the trustees of C3 Reflect ('the Company')**

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the period 14 May 2021 to 31 March 2022.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

As the charity's trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').

Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity's accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('the 2011 Act'). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

4. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)).

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
