## **Introduction**
Baildon, Shipley and Saltaire Men’s Shed, began in 2018, housed as a small community development project within a local health charity. The shed has continued to develop new activities, recruit new people and has gone from strength to strength. What began as our small once-a-week session has developed into a thriving programme of sessions which engage and support the communities of Baildon, Shipley and Saltaire.
The 23/24 year has continued to be as busy as ever and we now have more than 45 regular attendees, and in January 24, we established a dedicated ladies shed which accommodates 10 ladies currently.
Our shed clients continue to come together and whilst they are providing support to each other in woodwork and in general life, they are also producing some wonderful, much needed and well received wood-based items for the local community.

## **Summary of Activities.**
**Our location -** We have continued to develop our Northcliffe site, recently building a much-needed machine workshop extension to the rear which has helped us to reduce noise from power tools in the main workshop.
We have also built a ramp which has improved accessibility, specifically for wheelchair users and an outdoor decking area to sit out when the weather allows.
**Who do we support -** It has been heartwarming to see community members from all walks of life attend and enjoy the shed. Whilst the majority of clients are from a White British background we do have a growing number whose heritage represents more diverse ethnic backgrounds including Eastern European and South Asian.
A number of our clients are of working age with mild to moderate learning disabilities or living with mental health issues. We also continue to support clients with severe mental illness including those living with depression, bio polar and schizophrenia. More recently we have seen some of our more vulnerable clients attend without carers as they have found the group a supportive and nurturing environment.
We have also seen a community of clients who have experienced relationship breakdowns and through attending the shed, have found a safe space and much needed support, especially the quieter Wednesday evenings where they have more time to chat and often they can sit outside on the decking with a warm drink.

A number of our clients are good at woodwork and construction whilst others enjoy heavier tasks or gardening and potting up planters.
Our clients benefit significantly from coming together and helping one another. They provide support to each other with different tasks, sharing skills and often complementing and championing each other and celebrating their work.
**Work in the community –** We have continued to make a valuable contribution to our local community. Key projects includes
• Delivering workshops to support with the development of another Men’s Sheds in the neighbouring area.
• Building and arched walkway and padlock tree installed for our neighbours the Sands Stillbirth Charity.
- A wooden display stand for the “Scarfs for climate project” run by a local knitting group in Shipley.
We have also received much needed support and funding throughout the year and would like to extend our thanks to, Carers Resource, HALE, Inspired Neighbourhoods, The Rotary Club and St George Martins Trust,

## Baildon Shipley and Saltaire Annual Report Apr 23 – Mar 24.
For the year ending 31/03/2024 the charity was entitled to exemption from audit under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.
The members have not requested the charity to obtain an audit of its accounts for the year in question in accordance with section 476. The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.
These accounts have been prepared in accordance with the receipts and payments system.
