## **Introduction**
Baildon, Shipley and Saltaire Men’s Shed, has been in operation since 2018, beginning as a small project offering 1 session per week for men, living in and around the Baildon area. Fast forward 6 years later we are delivering 4 sessions per week, evening sessions in the summer months and regularly seeing and supporting over 40 males, and occasionally females too!
This year has seen a hive of activity including a new home for the Men’s Shed to work from and a number of exciting projects in the community.

## **Summary of Activities.**
**A new location -** We began building on the Northcliffe allotments site. Panels were transported up from cellar trust and despite the rain and winds we were able to get the roof on with the help of the council workmen delivering the oversized roof panels.
This meant we could transport all our tools and workbenches up to the site.
It took us a while to get organised, but we soon filled the building with 4 dedicated woodworking benches and 2 lathe stations. Along with the essential tea and coffee bar!!
we released that we were outgrowing the building with numbers regularly above 15 on a Tuesday morning. This was mitigated by establishing a Friday morning slot and by building an extension on the side of the cabin using the extra surplus
panels. We managed to source some thick mezzanine floorboards and some steel roofing sheets. We quickly built the extension which now houses a mitre saw, table saw, bandsaw and sanding station all with dust extraction.
**Who do we support** - The chaps come from all walks of life including those with moderate to severe mental health conditions. One has recently been able to attend without his Lynfield mount mental health nurse.
Others are going through personal situations including illness, divorce and bereavement. The shed is a continuing haven of peace and support to these guys in the turmoil of their lives.
During the middle of the year we realised there was a spate of suicides in Baildon, so we sought to provide an opportunity for men to meet on an evening. This has further allowed chaps to talk in a more personal setting about their struggles and difficulties they face in life.

**Work in the community -** Despite the work on the site we have continued to make items on commission including planters for Shipley market.
We were asked to do a series of outreach sessions with Inspired Neighbourhoods at Culture Fusion on Thornton Rd, Bradford. This was a basic introduction to woodwork making mallets and toolboxes before making a seating and planter area for the Thornbury Centre on Leeds Rd.
The chaps were representative of the cultures found in central Bradford and found the sessions a real benefit to their mental health and wellbeing. The group have continued to meet and have become a Men’s shed at St Vincent’s in Barkerend.
The Baildon men's shed continued with a steady number of new chaps attending including several with Dementia counterbalanced by a number with ex professional backgrounds.
We have had a steady flow of work including building a chicken coup for Sandal Primary School, and an order for 8 very large planters in Baildon village centre. The chaps have enjoyed the challenge! Other work has included items for Shipley tramway and Baildon community gardens.
Moving forward our plans include further work with Baildon Horticultural Society and completing the remaining planters with Baildon in Bloom as well as several private commissions.
The chaps continue to grow in their skills, confidence relationships and in the projects they undertake.
As we have grown over the past year in Baildon, we are now looking to find premises to create a workshop in Baildon.

For the year ending 31/03/2023 the charity was entitled to exemption from audit under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.
The members have not required the charity to obtain an audit of its accounts for the year in question in accordance with section 476. The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.
These accounts have been prepared in accordance with the receipts and payments system.
