Operation Reach Trustees. Report Year ended 30 September 2024 The Trustee5 present their report and financial statements for the year ended 30 September 2024. The Trustees confirm that the Annual Report and Rnancial Statements of the charity comply with the current statutory requirements, the requirements o* the charity's governing document and the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Prac¢i¢e (SORP), applicable to charities preparing their accounts on the receipts and payments basis. Objectives and activities Policies and oblectlves Operation Reach provides transformative adyentures for young people. to build their life skills and help them reach their potential. b. Artivities for achieving objective5 Operation Reach provides young people aged 16 to 18 with the opportunity to trnvel overseas to experience a distinct culture and complete a demanding, physical challenge. The charity the provides ongoing support through an 18-month mentoring programme, focussing on advice and guidance for university and work experience opportunities. . Public benefit st74tement The Trustees confirm that they have compiled with the dury in section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to haye due regard to the Charity Commissions, general guidance on public benefi( "Chariues and Public Benefit" Achievements and performance Review of activities As awareness of our charity grows amongst young people, so do the number of applicants. This year we had close to 50 eligible {free school meals, first generation tertiary education and strong academic credentials) applicants for only 14 places. selection but a150 meant that the young people we chose really were those for whom Operation Reach could make social mobility a realiry. The Reachers 2024 ultimately chosen demonstrated.a drive to achieve,. had tough 50cio-economic barriers to overcome; and, were Supported by strorbg references from their teachers- either identifying a clear need to build life skills or someone whose horizons were too narrow through lack of opportunity. The Reachers 2024 are also the broadesc group in terms of interests and career aspirations which has led to our m05t diverse industries being utilised including, for the first time, doctors. technology firms and architects. The Reachers 2024 are 50 proud to have been selected for this opportunity, and have demonstrated enduring commitment to the values and purpose of this charity. Speaking with the volunteers when they returned Irom Indi4 they were immensely proud of how well each young person adapted to the new cultural experience and physical challenge. Whi15t there were certainly testing times, all the Reachers made it through and grew in confidence as a result. The programme continues to create valuable opportunities- whether it's welcoming Reachers into the workplace to experience office life and connect with recent graduates, exploring museums. or facilitating introductions with profe5siona15 in their fields of interesL The mentoring programme started in September 2024, and is a wonderful opportunity for the Reacher5 to widen their network of professional contacfs. All the pairings are golng well. each taking its own path depending on the interests and needs of the young person. Following their triB mentors have been providing tailored support with UCAS applications, apprenticeship opportunities, and interview preparation. ensuring each Reacher feels supported to take their next steps be that their final year of School, gap years. university of the workplace. Most recentEy, the Reachers attended our annual Photography Exhibition - an opportunity for a reunion., to see memories from their trip., and. m05t importantly, engage with our donor network. Again, there was 2 significant sense of achievement to watch the confidence with which these young people can now engage with adults. and thus broaden their horiions ever further. Financial Revlew The charity's receipts for the period were £37,607 2nd Consisted of £26.000 from grants, £9,311 from donations and £2,296 fundraised by Reachers and volunteers. Payments for the year were £49.4¢)6 of which £45.813 was for expedition costs, training day and associated insurance. For the year ended 30 September 2024, there was a deficit of payments over receipts of £11,799. There was a surplus of receipts over payments in the prior year of £19.090. Funds of the charity were £10,099 as at 30 September 2024. Going concern The Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate resource5 to continue in operational exIs￿nce for the foreseeable luture. For thi5 reason they ¢ontinue to adopt the going concem basis in preparing the financial statements. b. Reserves policy The charity's reserves policy aims to.. provide the charity With adequate financial stability and the mean5 to address any unforeseen circumstances- ensure the continuity of services for all beneficiarie5 Without unnecessary interruption. and ensure that restritted and unrestritted funds are managed in an appropriate manner. Given the early stage of establishment of the charity, the Trustees recognise that it was a challenge to build reserves in the Current economic climate. The CEO and Trustees will continue to keep the reserves needs of the charity continually under review. The appropriate level of free reserves necessary for the efficient management of the charity is a5se5sed to be approximatety costs relating to organising an expedition for one future cohort plus three months operating expenditure. As at 30 September 2024. there was a balance of £1 0,099 unrestricted funds. . Post Balance Sheet events The Trustees confirm thac there were no post balance sheec events that might have an impact on the financial position of the charity as of the reportlng date. The management of the charity is the responsibility of the Trustees who are elected and co-opted under the term5 of the constitution. An interview process is in place in the appointment of the Trustees. The final decision to appoint is voted on by the Trustees. Policies adopted for the Induction and training of Trustees Trustees are Subject to interviews and DBS checks prior to being appointed. All Trustees have a clear role description including specific roles and respon5ibllide5. Training is given by existing Trustees and they have the optlon to meet the Reachers (subject to the necessary checks having been performed) through the interyiew process. training day and at fundraising events. d. Organisational strurture and decision making There are seven appointed Trustees who are responsible for oversight of the charity and effe¢¢ive management of its resources as at the date of this report Day to day responsibility for operations is delegated to the Volunteer CEO as set out in their contract {unpaid). All major decisions such as selec¢ing of vendors and use of financial re50urce5 are discussed and voted on by the Trustees. . Rlsl< management The Trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity [5 exposed. in particular those related to operations and finances of the charity. and are satisfied that systems and procedures are in place to mitigate its exposure to the major risks. The charity has an insurance policy in place to mltlgate some of the operational risks. A separate detsiled risk assessment for the Reachers, expedition was also prepared by the travel agency that the charity partnered with and reviewed by the CEO and trustees. Trustee's responsibilities statement The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with rea50n2ble accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements compty with the Charities Act 201 l. the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the charitys constitution. The trlp was extremely unique and I wos able to explore a part of the world that is rich in both culture and history - much of which we were taught when visiting the Taj Mahal & the Red Fort in Agra. Despite the hike being challenging, it taught me how to be resilient and ollowed me to form closer bonds with the other Reachers. After the hike. I was paired with an excellent mentor who helped me with my application to medical school & now continues to support mg while preporlng for interviews. Operation Reach Notes to the accounts Year ended 30 September 2024 Accounting pollcles l. l Basis of preparation of accounts The charity constitutes a public benefit entity as defined by FRS 102. The accounts have been prepared on the receipts and payments basis as pemiitted in accordance Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities iSSLted on 16 July 2014, the Charities Act 2011 and UK Generally Accepted Practice as it applies from l January 2015 updated for bulletin l. The accounts are prepared on a going concern basi5 under the historical cost convention. The accounts are prepared in sterling, which is the functional cvrren¢y of the charlty. Monetary amounts in these a¢¢ounts are rounded to the nearest £. The significant accounting policies applied in the preparation of these accounts are set out below. These policies have been conststendy applled to all years presented unless otherwise stated. 1.2 Going concern At the time of approving the accounts, the Trustees have a reasonable expec¢ation that the charlty has adequate resource5 to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. Thus the Trustees continue to adopt the going concern basis of a¢¢ounting In preparing the accounts. 1.3 Charitable funds Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the Trustees In furtherance of their charitable objectives unless the funds have been designated for other purposes. 1.5 Cash and cash equivalents Cash and cash equivalents include cash in hand. 1.6 Fixed assets The charity does not currentty have any fixed assets. 1.7 Basic financial assets Basic financial assets, which include debtors and cash and bank balances. are initially measured at transacoon price including transaction costs and are subsequently carried at amortised cost using the effective interest method unless the arrangerTient constitutes a financing trnnsa¢tion, Whe￿ the transaction is measured at the preserbt value of the future receipts discounted at a market rate of interest. Financial assets classified as receivable within one year are not amortised. All expenses are indusive of irrecoverable VAT. 1.8 Corporation Tax The charity is an exempt charity within the meaning of schedule 3 of the Charities Act 2011 and is considered to pa55 the tests set ouc in Paragraph I Schedule 6 Firiance Act 2010 and therefore it meets the definition of a charitable company for UK corporation tax purposes. 1.9 Crltical accounting estimates and judgements In the application of the charl￿S 2ccounting policies. the Trustees are required to make judgements, estimates 2nd assumptions about the carrying amount of assets and liabilities that are not readity apparent from other sources. The ￿tiMate$ and associated assumptions are based on htstorical experience and other factors that are considered to be relevant. Actual re5uIt5 may differ from th¢se estimates. The estimates and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounting estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised where the revision affects only that period, or in the period of the revision and future period5 where the revision affects both current and future periods. 2.
