## **- Annual Report 2023 Shifnal Help Food Bank** The SHFB has the following named Trustees: Chris Thorpe, Catherine Rogers, Phil Freeth, Sue Lawrence, Liz Hobbis, Amy Case, Elizabeth Hepburn, Dave Gough, Annie Donnelly and Sue Francis. There is a management committee comprising some trustees and regular volunteers who meet bi-monthly to discuss both operational and policy matters and ensure that the business of the SHFB continues to meet and satisfy its objectives. Shifnal Help Food Bank continues to be a valuable asset to the community, building bridges of support and caring, making connections and its location at St Andrew’s Church, Shifnal is a vital hub for that support. Once again demand for the food bank grew during 2023, and the figures in the poster and line graph demonstrate this. Overall annual demand April 2023 - end March 2024 increased by 3.2% compared with equivalent period 2022/2023. In 2023/24 (April - end March) SHFB supported 583 people, providing the equivalent of 12243 meals. In 2022/23 (April - end March) SHFB supported 565 people, providing the equivalent of 11865 meals. (This poster provides data relating to Jan 2023 - December 2023) Sue Lawrence and her fantastic and dedicated team of around 12 regular volunteers, have worked so hard throughout the year, to respond to the demand, managing huge volumes of very generous donations of stock, which has to be collected from donation points around Shifnal, date coded, and racked away, before it is selected, packed into food parcels and collected by those we support. We also shop for fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and eggs as parcels are requested, to ensure that the parcels provide a balanced diet. SHFB continues to provide weekly term time support to Idsall Secondary School and Sixth Form , providing stocks of snacks, fruit, pot noodles, cereal etc for pupils in receipt of Pupil Premium, whose £2.40 daily lunch allowance is barely enough to cover the costs charged in the school canteen. In December 2023 the food bank ran its Christmas Hamper project, for the third year. 86 hampers were packed and delivered. This was a 19.5% increase on the number delivered in 2022. We were extremely grateful to Shifnal Town Council who supported the Hamper project with a £1500 grant. The hosting of the Everyday Warm Welcome at St Andrew’s continues to provide a good link and opportunity to signpost those seeking support and struggling with cost of living increases and particularly high energy prices, to spend time in the free, warm, safe and welcoming space and to enjoy hot refreshments and a soup lunch. Shifnal Help Food Bank would like to thank St Andrew’s Church for generously continuing to host the food bank, and everyone across the community for their continued generous support with both food and financial donations.
