Restore Filey Community Church

Annual Report

31 March 2023 – 31 March 2024

Financial Statement

A financial breakdown of the income and expenditure related to Restore Filey has been provided alongside this annual report. The income and expenditure report breaks down the significant areas of each of these domains. Over the last financial year Restore Filey has consistently continued to apply for grant funding and whilst not always successful the awards that have come in have made a difference to the activities, we have been able to offer.

The considerable change this financial year is the decision to revert to everyone being on volunteer status thus not having to pay wages anymore. This decision was taken to ensure the sustainability of the organisation and will be reviewed again in the future.

Restore Filey has seen steady growth over the last year and with this has come increased donations from its members. We thank everyone for their contributions, and this has allowed Restore to remain stable and consistent in its activities and ultimately for the community to benefit.

Organisational Structure

As a leadership team we remain satisfied that the current number of trustees is sufficient for

an organisation of our size. The current trustees are listed below.

Tim Harvey - Trustee

Heather Rowe - Trustee

Marylyn Briggs – Trustee

Should the church see growth over the next reporting period, the trustees will need to

consider if it is appropriate to seek to appoint another trustee.

Asset Review

Restore Filey does not have a building to meet in, therefore we are reliant on renting rooms

from other local organisations. We have made positive connections with Gristhorpe Village

OFFICIAL

Hall, The Evron Centre and the Methodist Church in Filey. All of these rooms are let to us for a small

fee.

Restore Filey owns all the equipment required to operate its Sunday services and the youth

work commitments that we have. We will be seeking to improve the range of resources

available to us in the future, however this is not a current priority.

Core Offer

Restore Filey’s charitable objectives as set out in our governing document are.

“TO ADVANCE THE CHRISTIAN FAITH IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE STATEMENT

OF FAITH THROUGHOUT NORTH YORKSHIRE AND THE UK FOR THE BENEFIT

OF THE PUBLIC MAINLY BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY THROUGH THE PROVISION

OF A PLACE OF WORSHIP, THE HOLDING OF PRAYER MEETINGS, RELIGIOUS

EDUCATION AND TO PROVIDE OUTREACH AND PASTORAL CARE FOR THE

COMMUNITY.”

These objectives remain true to our core offer and therefore there is no need for them to be

updated at this time.

Partnerships

CIC International – We continue to be members of CIC International and through this we receive our accreditation to minister. This ensures that we can be part of churches together in Filey and we value this.

Outreach UK – Outreach UK is an umbrella organisation that supports evangelists sharing the

Christian faith in the UK. We are provided with supervision and practical support that is

integral to our leadership.

Progression Analysis

As an organisation I feel we should be pleased with the progress that has been made over the

last year. At times we all wish things would progress quicker, however our slow growth does

reflect a solidity to our actions. We are aware that we need to continue to seek our further funding opportunities and I am pleased that this has been happening.

Restore Filey has established a rhythm of meeting and a range of support that is becoming

well, known within our local community. We will continue to strive to offer church in the

most accessible and supportive way to the people around us.

It is important to establish a breakdown in respect of the income and expenditure so that we can analyses the themes of growth within the organisation. Restore Filey received £1,144.96 in Gift Aid. We continue to ensure that this is claimed monthly, so we are ensuring that we are utilising this effectively. Restore Filey has received £8,101.21 in donations and £5,100 in grants.

In respect of expenditure the largest outgoing was in respect of resources that fund the different events that have been run throughout the year. It is encouraging that for the first 9 months of the year we were paying payroll expenses, however in September 2023 we took the decision that we would no longer continue to pay wages and would all be classed as volunteers to ensure the sustainability of the organisation. Expenses in respect of room hire continue to be a necessary outgoing for us.

Analysis

Restore Filey has met all of its financial obligations during this financial year. We continue to be able to hold financial reserves and are able to meet the ongoing overheads that we hold. There has been an increase in giving and we continue to apply for grants on a regular basis. The decision to stop paying wages in September 2023 was a positive decision taken to protect the sustainability of the organisation. We continue to meet our financial obligations in respect of expenses, and this is imperative as the organisation is run by volunteers, we do not want anyone to be out of pocket.

Restore Filey is a community church that has outreach at its heart. For this reason, we run frequent outreach events throughout the year, and this remains our largest outgoing. As an integral part of the ethos of Restore Filey it is important that we continue to be able to sustain this as it is the significant aspect of the church that connects us to the community.
