Annual Report

Overview

Trustees:

  1. Zahdah Majid

  2. Omar Majid

  3. Othman Shoukat Majid

Charity number: 1194351

Charitable Objectives

The prevention or relief of poverty for the public benefit in the UK by providing items, services and grants to individuals in need and, or the provision of grants to educational institutions which are conducting research into poverty and supporting research into factors that contribute to poverty and the most appropriate ways to mitigate these.

The promotion of religious and racial harmony for the public benefit by: promoting knowledge and mutual understanding between different religious and racial groups ; advancing education and raising awareness about different religious and racial groups to promote good relations between persons of different religious and racial groups through grant funding research; and working towards the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of religious belief and race.

Introduction

This report covers the Charity’s activities during the year under review. The Charity remains small and trustee-led, with no paid staff and limited administrative capacity. As such, activity during the year was intentionally focused and measured, with the trustees prioritising impact, governance, and responsible stewardship of funds over expansion.

While overall activity levels were lower than initially envisaged when the Charity was established, the trustees believe the approach taken during the year was appropriate given prevailing constraints.

Activities and Achievements

During the year, the Charity undertook a single, targeted fundraising effort:

The trustees selected Cambridge Muslim College as a recipient due to its established governance, trusted track record, and direct support for individuals facing economic hardship within higher education.

No further fundraising campaigns, grant rounds, or events were undertaken during the year. The trustees considered it preferable to focus on a single, high-confidence deployment of funds rather than pursue additional activity without sufficient capacity to manage it effectively.

Risk Management

The Charity continues to maintain appropriate governance and risk management arrangements proportionate to its size and activities. Relevant policies remain in place, including:

Given the limited operational scope during the year, the trustees assessed the Charity’s overall risk exposure as low. Financial risk was mitigated by limiting fundraising to amounts that could be deployed promptly and transparently.

Financial Overview

Costs

The primary cost was maintenance of our website.

Income

Total income for the year amounted slightly more than £6,000, raised through donations from friends and family within the trustees’ personal networks in the UK.

Challenges and Constraints

The year under review presented a number of challenges for the Charity:

The trustees consider these challenges structural rather than temporary and have therefore shaped the Charity’s approach accordingly.

Plans Going Forward

Looking ahead, the trustees expect the Charity’s activities to remain modest in the near term. Future fundraising and grant-making will be undertaken on a selective, opportunistic, and capacity-led basis, rather than through large-scale campaigns.

The trustees will continue to prioritise:

Any expansion of activity will be contingent on increased capacity, whether through additional trustee time, volunteers, or improved operational infrastructure.

Structure and Governance

There were no changes to the Charity’s structure or governance during the year. The trustees believe the current governance arrangements remain appropriate given the Charity’s size, resources, and level of activity.

In the longer term, should activity increase meaningfully, the trustees will consider strengthening organisational capacity, including the potential involvement of volunteers. However, no changes are anticipated in the immediate future.
