Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

From 01/04/2022 Period start date To 31/03/2023 Period end date

Charity name: Thrive UK - Poverty Relief

Charity registration number: 1194343

Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 The object of the CIO is for the public
benefit the relief of poverty and need of
people who are homeless or rough
sleeping in England including through (i)
the provision of food, personal care items
and other necessities (either directly or by
means of a credit/ voucher system in
cooperation with retailers and other third
parties); (ii) the provision of or access to
shelter and temporary accommodation for
the homeless and rough sleepers; (iii) the
provision of advice, support and assistance
for persons in need who are deemed to be
homeless or rough sleeping which directly
or indirectly relieve, reduce or end their
homelessness; (iv) undertaking, publishing
and promoting research relating to
homelessness and other associated
matters; and v) bringing the issue of
homelessness and rough sleeping to the
attention of the general public and
developing public awareness of the extent
and consequences of homelessness and
rough sleeping, together with the steps
which are and can be taken to alleviate it.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
Thrive UK – Poverty Relief’s activities will
be focused around a specially created app,
designed to enable the public to make
donations (anticipated to be generally of
low financial values) for the relief of the
homeless in both their local and wider
areas. These donations will be used to
provide necessities (such as personal care
items, food, drink or a night’s
accommodation) to the homeless.
Homeless individuals will be given credits
(anticipated to be digital credits via their
mobile phone) which they can exchange for
necessities at partnering shops, cafes,
hostels, dentists etc. In order to support
these activities, Thrive UK–Poverty Relief
will partner with retailers, cafes, restaurants
and other organisations within local areas.
These partnerships will enable the
exchange of credits for certain commodities
(i.e. a homeless individual will be able to
ask a participating café to exchange a
credit for a coffee or sandwich). The use of
the app will enable low value donations to
be easily made, in the knowledge that
these will benefit the homeless in the
donor’s local area. The use of the credit
system also ensures that donations will be
used to obtain necessities, reducing the
potential for donations to be used to obtain
items such as alcohol and drugs. In
addition, Thrive UK- Poverty Relief’s App
will also provide access for the homeless to
the support and resources provided by
Thrive UK-Poverty Relief and by other
charities and organisations. In this respect,
Thrive UK – Poverty Relief will also work
with existing charities to provide help and
assistance to the homeless. Thrive UK –
Poverty Relief will also utilise social media
to develop public awareness of, and
empathy to, homelessness and the
challenges linked to homelessness, with
particular emphasis at the current time on
the impact of COVID-19 upon the homeless
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
Para 1.18 The activities of Thrive UK - Poverty Relief
are for the support and relief of the
homeless. The criteria which will be used
by the Trustees in determining who will
benefit from the charity are as follows: the
charity will benefit the homeless and rough
sleepers (Homeless). The Homeless are
those who are living/sleeping on the
streets, in a public place or who otherwise
do not have stable, safe and secure
residential accommodation.
