Introduction Sevenoaks (Loaves & Flshes) Foodbank also known as Loaves and Fishes Foodbank and Sevenoaks Foodbank Ihereafterthe-charitf orthe °Foodbank°) was set up in 2010 as an unincorporated charitable association. It wa5 replaced on the 29 April 2021 by a charitable incorporated organisation foundation ICIO) and the original association was dismantled ITrustees' meeting of 22 July 20211. It was re8iStered with the Chaftty Commission on S May 2021 under the number 1194341. Trustees In accordance with s.10.2. of the Constitution. the Parochial Church Council of St John the Baptist Church in Sevenoaks may appoint one charity trustee, being either the main priest or his representative. - Objectives and Activities The Foodbank is attin8 for the Public Benefft in accordance with the Charity Commission Guidelines. The object of the Charity is to relieve financial hardship by providing food and other essential svpplies to families and individuals in need. in both Sevenoaks and the surrounding area. The activities of the charity include: The distribution of food and other essential supplies to be collected by the recipients everyThursdayfrom the Hall situated at the registered address The offer of a friendly and welcoming space for the recipients to Stay for a chat and refreshments The delivery of food for recipients in an emergency where they cannot reach the Hall The opportunity to meet representatives of other charities which offer other types of support to people in need The collection of food through churthes. schools. organisations. and individuals in and around Sevenoaks Cooperation with other charities and shops to obtain fresh food and hygiene produrts to be distributed Cooperation with other food banks in the Sevenoaks area to share excess supplies Making local residents aware of the existence of the Charity and how they can provide support
- Achievements and performance 5.1 Donations 5.1.1 In goods Over the past year. the Charity received food donations from a number of sources, namely churches, schools. organisations. local companies as well a5 many individuals. For this accounting period donations totalled £16.840 {2024'. £20.8251 The Charity also received special donations from several churches such as Easter Eggs. Hot Cross buns. Christmas cakes. Christmas puddings. Every primary school child registered with the Charity is provided with a birthday cake through Cokesfor Kids The Charity also received bread and pastries that are collected from Sainsburf5 local. Fresh fruit and vegetables are bought at low cost from °FareShare-. given by a local person and bought from Morrisons. 5.1.2 Extra support This year, the extra support that was gtven to the recipients thanks to regular visits from other charities was extended to even more charities wtth a "visitor" coming at each session. Distribution The majority of the Charivs donations are to households and single people. The recipients of the Charitrfs support are referred by Neighbourhood Housing Officers. CAB, Benefrts Agenvi, Social Services, HEROS Isevenoaks Distritt Council) and other approved agencies. Additionally. emergenc¥ food can be provided for families or individuals in response to self-referrals via the website if no fomial referral from these agencie5 has yet been received. Numbers of clients benefiting from our services were as follows- We continued to see a steady stream of clients over the course of the year. A nota- ble change was that from December 2024 we saw a marked and sustained increase in the average number of households comingto us each week. At the beginning of the year from April 2024 we had an average of 30.1 households per week, whereas by the end of the year we were averagin8 40.7 households. Over the course of the year this amounted to a total of 334 individuals helped - 208 adults and 126 children. At the end of the year we had 168 individuals on our register compared wlth 131 at the end of the previous year. representing an increase of 28%. We continue to screen clients. ensuring we help the most needy by asking for a referral from a relevant agency for anyone wishing to come to the food bank regularly. and in the process checking that they are getting some wider a55iStance with a view to helping them get back to a position where they can support themselves. The Charity distributes a range of non-perishable food items, fresh fruit, vegetables bread and milk together with cheese and eggs o through a personal self-select shopptng experience. The recipients are also prowded with other types of essential household products such as hygiene items and cleaning products The Foodbank operates every Thursday when clients come during the afternoon to select items prepared for distribution Supermarket vouchers were given out at Christmas. After the Hapiest Festival and Christmas, the Charity was able to r&direct its exce55 of food to Elim Christian Centre Foodbank in Swanley 5.3 Volunteers The Charity comprises 20 volunteers. 4 of them being trustees. The volunteers receive, sort and store the donations and then prepare the food items for distribution as well as welcoming clients and providing refreshments During the academic year, teams of two student5 from a local school joined the charity for the afternoon shift on a temporary basis 6. Financial Review Pollcy on Reser¥es The running costs of the Charity are very low because the hall where it operates 15 provided by St John Church for free and the Church also covers the cost of electricity- No wages are paid as the charity 15 Staffed in full by volunteers. The trustees have therefore decided that reserves can be as low as £lO.IXX). Summary ofthe Accounts The Charity has been supported with financial and 'in-kind' donations from numerous individuals as well as the many local churches and organisations. SO far. it has had no need to fundraise actively. Some individuals have undertaken some fundraising on a personal basis and donated the money ratsed to the Foodbank. Besides private donors and charitable donations. the Charity was awarded grants from Sevenoaks District Council in the sum of £7.066 (2024: £8.666). The total income of the Charity over the13st year amounts to £23.90612024: £29.4911 and the expenditure of £30,56812024- £23.6641. Expenditure is solely in line with the objectives of the Charity in providing food and essentials for households in need.
