## **Trustees’ Annual Report**
## Structure governance and management
The charity is governed by its constitution dated 22[nd] October 2020. Trustees are appointed annually at the annual general meeting, at which all parents and carers of Columbia Primary school are entitled to attend and vote.
## Objectives and activities
The object of the association (the objects) laid out in its governing documents is to advance the education of pupils in the Columbia Primary School in particular by:
2.1 developing effective relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school
2.2 engaging in activities or providing facilities or equipment which support the school and advance the education of the pupils.
The activities undertaken in relation to these objectives was the payment for activities and the purchase of equipment to enhance the education of pupils attending Columbia Primary school. The Trustees have had full regard to the guidance issued by the Charities Commission on public benefit, when granting their approval of these charitable payments.
## Achievements and Performance
Friends of Columbia Primary School took over the remaining cash balance of £17,470 from the unregistered association of the same name when it successfully registered as a charity on 4[th] May 2021.
The remaining income was raised from donations and other fund raising activities.
Significant contributions to the advancement of education made by the Friends included the funding of a part-time school librarian for most of the period under review and the funding of class trips enabling all children to participate.
A very popular summer term event was the funding of an ice cream van to drive into the school playground and give an ice cream to every pupil and teacher.
Over the period under review progress has been made in ensuring the charity is well run. The following have been implemented:
- A chair, deputy chair, secretary and treasurer positions have been created
- A Just Giving funding raising platform has been set up to make it easier for parents and the community to donate to the school and to support the various sponsorship events we have held
- We have registered with the HMRC to reclaim Gift Aid on qualifying donations
- We have obtained a charity discount from the Sage Foundation to transfer our accounts online

- We have established a formal funding request process to ensure donations to the Friends of Columbia Primary school are made transparently
## Financial Review
The charity ended its first period with unrestricted funds of £14,388. Most of this reserve has been designated to fund the refurbishment of the existing parents room into a multidisciplinary resource room. The reserves policy in future years will be set to set a level of funds sufficient to meet the commitments made to fund activities in the school in the immediately following autumn term.
## Going concern
After making appropriate enquiries, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. For this reason, they continue to adopt the going concern basis in preparing the financial statements.
## Audit Exemption
The Directors have decided to take advantage of the audit exemption provisions of the Companies Act 2006. Under the provisions of section 145 of the Charities Act 2011, Abdul Salekh has been appointed as lndependent Examiner. His report is shown on page 7.

## Statement of Trustees Responsibilities
The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to:
•select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently;
•observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP;
- •make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
•state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and
•prepare the accounts on a going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business.
The trustees are responsible for maintaining proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the accounts comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008; ] and the provisions of the trust deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

## **Report to the trustees of Friends of Columbia Primary School (charity number: 1194309) on the accounts for the period ended 31 August 2021 set out on the pages 8 to 13**
## **Responsibilities and basis of report**
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the period ended 31 August 2022.
As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **Notes to the financial statements**
## **1. General information**
The charity is a public benefit entity which is incorporated in England and Wales. The address of its registered and principal office is Columbia Primary School, 49 - 53 Columbia Road, London. E2 7RG .
## **2. Accounting policies**
## 2.1 Basis of preparation of financial statements
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) - Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared to give a 'true and fair' view and have departed from the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 only to the extent required to provide a 'true and fair' view. This departure has involved following the Charities SORP (FRS 102) published on 16 July 2014.
The Friends of Columbia Primary School meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102.
Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy.
The financial statements cover the period from the date the charity was registered on 4 May 2021 up to 31 August 2022.
## 2.2 Income
Income is recognised once the charity has entitlement to the income, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount of income receivable can be measured reliably.
## 2.3 Expenditure
Expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation to transfer economic benefit to a third party, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is classified by activity. The costs of each activity are made up of the total of direct costs and shared costs, including support costs involved in undertaking each activity. Expenditure on raising funds includes all expenditure incurred by the charity to raise funds for its charitable purposes and includes costs of all fundraising activities events. All expenditure is inclusive of irrecoverable VAT.

2.4 Interest receivable Interest on funds held on deposit is included when receivable and the amount can be measured reliably by the charity; this is normally upon notification of the interest paid or payable by the Bank.
## 2.5 Debtors
Trade and other debtors are recognised at the settlement amount after any trade discount offered. Prepayments are valued at the amount prepaid net of any trade discounts due.
## 2.6 Cash at bank and in hand
Cash at bank and in hand includes cash and short-term highly liquid investments with a short maturity of three months or less from the date of acquisition or opening of the deposit or similar account.
## 2.7 Liabilities and provisions
Liabilities are recognised when there is an obligation at the Balance sheet date as a result of a past event, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefit will be required in settlement, and the amount of the settlement can be estimated reliably. Liabilities are recognised at the amount that the charity anticipates it will pay to settle the debt or the amount it has received as advanced payments for the goods or services it must provide.
## 2.9 Financial instruments
The charity only has financial assets and financial liabilities of a kind that qualify as basic financial instruments. Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at transaction value and subsequently measured at their settlement value.
## 2.10 Fund accounting
General funds are unrestricted funds which are available for use at the discretion of the Trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity and which have not been designated for other purposes.
