## Incorporation and Objectives

WMS was incorporated as a charitable incorporated organisation and registered with the Charity Commission on 29[th] Apr 2021.

The objectives of WMS, as set out in its constitution are :

“To promote social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing people (particularly but not exclusively older men), within the area of Ware and surrounding area, from becoming socially excluded. Relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society through the provision of facilities in which they learn to pass on skills and knowledge and support each other socially.”

## Activities

2024 marked Ware Men’s Shed first full year of operation after opening its doors on 3[rd] April 2023.

During the year, the shed was very active with various projects, including making

- nearly 300 swift bird boxes for local charity groups

- several garden planters

- a lectern for a local church

- bird box kits.

We also participated in several local events, including the Ware Carnival (where we won the prize for the best float.), the Police Fun Day and the Fun Palace. For the last of these we ran a session for the attendees to make their own nest boxes which was very popular.

The shed itself has also prospered over the year.

- Membership grew to 32 members

- The committee has been active in setting the direction for the shed, including initiating applying for planning permission for a shed extension to give us more space for working on projects and for meeting inside when the weather is wet / cold.

- We have also had lots of engagement with the local community, both through attending local events, but also casually through contact with visitors and passers-by. This creation of a sense of community and belonging is an important part of what the shed does and benefits both the shed members and those we interact with.

Financially 2024 was a good year for the shed as well.

- We applied for and received two grants, one from Asda and one from the Hertfordshire Community Fund for £750 and £2800 respectively to allow us to buy new tools for the shed.

- We were one of the nominated charities for the Ware Carnival, from which we received £1800.

- We received personal donations from various people for a further £673.

This has left the shed with a healthy bank balance of £7322 at the end of the year, which we intend to invest in developing the shed’s facilities in the coming year.
