## Management

## Incorporation and Objectives 

WMS was incorporated as a charitable incorporated organisation and registered with the Charity Commission on 29[th] Apr 2021. 

The objectives of WMS, as set out in its constitution are : 

“To promote social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing people (particularly but not exclusively older men), within the area of Ware and surrounding area, from becoming socially excluded. Relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society through the provision of facilities in which they learn to pass on skills and knowledge and support each other socially.” 

## Activities 

After spending two years from its formation looking for a space to operate from, Ware Men’s Shed formally opened its doors to members on 3rd April 2023 at Cemetery Lodge in Ware.  In its first nine months of operation to the end of 2023 it achieved a lot. 

- Membership grew rapidly and reached 26 members by the end of the year. 

- Some of the new members stepped up to become trustees and we established a management committee. 

- The members have worked hard to build and fit out the shed to create a workshop. 



- In the process we have created a sense of community, not only amongst our members, but in the wider local population, many of whom stop by when we meet to chat and to ask us to take on projects. 

- The projects we have undertaken include planters, hedgehog boxes, stools and a new case for the mayor’s chain.  One commission for a pair of planters to be placed in front of Ware police station was featured on the front page of the Hertfordshire Mercury newspaper. 

Financially, we made a deficit of £1270 in the year, as we invested much of the money that had been donated to us in previous years in fitting-out our new space, but we have a stable financial position. 

Looking forwards, the key challenges for us in the coming year are : 

- to expand our available space at the current site to accommodate our growing membership 

- to invest in new tools and machinery 

- to continue to publicise the shed and to grow our membership 

- to raise funds to pay for it all.
