Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES IN 2021-2022

As lockdown eased at the beginning of the period, we were able to reopen to the public with appropriate Covid measures in place and have enjoyed seeing people returning to the facilities and reengaging in activities.

We had an agreement with the previous administration of the Oasis Christian Centre to upkeep and maintain the property until such a time as we were able to raise the finance to purchase the property. During this time, we realised that the property was in very poor condition and was going to need much finance over a period of years to bring it up to the standard we require. On completion of purchase (November 2021) most of our outgoings have been invested into the upgrade, which is ongoing. For this period:

• Landscaping of whole acreage has been achieved

• New drainage where needed

• Temporary roof repairs

• Refurbishing and decoration of function room facility and accommodation

• Refurbishing of static caravans for guest accommodation

• Garages have been converted to workshop and storage areas for machinery and ground equipment.

• Also, after having inspections by fire compliance officers, we have carried out major alterations and upgrades to comply with fire regulations, which are still ongoing.

We have worked with a local architect and structural engineer to move the building renovation programme of the Oasis cottage forward. We have had helpful pre-planning meetings with London Building Control, which is the business of a Christian friend, identified with our vision.

Upgrades to the property will continue in the future.

Due to the improvements to the property, the frequency of use has increased, and the following activities have taken place:

• Weekly Sunday morning church meetings

• Christian Teaching seminars

• Respite holidays for individuals and families

• Preparation of function room facility for proposed future conferences, wedding and funeral services.

Section E Financial review

Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves Details of any funds materially in deficit

The trustees have decided that a reserve balance of £5,000 will be kept as a reserve for the purpose of emergency repairs and/or maintenance. Whilst this may seem rather minimal, labour costs would not be included in this sum, as within the trustees there are qualified, professional builders, electricians and plumbers, and other skills within the church fellowship, who offer their services as volunteers. At the 31 March 2022, the General Fund was £23,607 (2021: £29,612). The reason for the reduction of the reserves for this period is due to the initial dilapidated state of The Oasis on acquiring the property. Expenses are likely to continue at this level until the trustees have got the remainder of the property up to the required standard.

Section F Other optional information

As lockdown eased and lifted, we were able to move towards more discipleship seminars and teaching the Christian faith. Some of our members have begun to interact with local organisations in the community, endeavouring to relate to others in line with our statement of faith.

The reopening of the resource centre has enabled us to restart our work for individuals and groups interested in exploring Christian lifestyle and spirituality, as well as offering support or help to individuals.

We have also been able to resume our Living Waters Conventions, which are usually held twice a year, in May and September. These conventions have been running for almost forty years. The first one since lockdown was in September 2021 and generated a huge interest after being suspended for so long.

• I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31[st] March 2022.

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
