## **ANNUAL REPORT 2024-2025**

**RUDDINGTON RDA GROUP** continued to liaise with Nethergate Academy who appreciated the support we had given their pupils during the 2024-2025 year and which they acknowledged had been a magical opportunity that most of the children would never experience. This had been made possible by the dedication and hard work of all the volunteers.

## **VOLUNTEERS:**

We started the Summer Term on 18 April 2024 with eleven volunteers. However, Linda Baker joined the Group on 12 September 2024 and very quickly became an invaluable member of the team particularly with respect to managing the DBS application procedure.

On the evening of Thursday 18 April 2024 Christine Whiteside and Pat Steven attended the Mayor’s Charity Chinese Dinner held at the Yeung Sing Restaurant in Bingham. This was the final event of the Mayor’s fundraising activities which had been held during Mayor Debbie Mason’s term of office from May 2023 to May 2024 to support the RDA groups in Rushcliffe.

First Aid Training was held as follows:

2 July 2024 at Aly Greenway Workplace Training, Skydive Centre, Langar – Elaine Swift, Jane Davies, Christine Whiteside, Patricia Steven.

5 November 2024 at Rushcliffe Arena, Nottingham – Denise Ward, Linda Baker.

## Volunteer training:

Anne Raisbeck and Patricia Steven attended the Regional Polework training session presented by Bridget Mackwood, the RDA Showjumping Lead. The Workshop was held on 21 October 2024 at the Scropton RDA Centre and Bridget demonstrated how polework can be enjoyed with poles on the ground and raised poles.

On 7 November 2024 volunteer training was held at Meadow School of Riding, Normanton covering pole work and the three-stages of leading.

On 21 November 2024 volunteers, namely, Denise Ward, Jane Harris, Linda Baker, Sara Hickman, Anne Raisbeck and Pat Steven, visited the Belvoir Vale RDA Centre to see a demonstration of the mechanical horse. Anne very competently acted as the demonstration rider.

Christmas Lunch, 10 December 2024: the volunteers gathered at The Plough, Normanton-on-Soar for the annual Christmas lunch. On this occasion the Group very generously presented Pat Steven with the Unsung Hero Award. On receipt of the award pat commented that she was delighted to receive the Award and proud to be working with a team of loyal volunteers who are so hardworking and dedicated and make such a difference to the lives of the participants. She went on to say that whatever she had achieved as Coach, Secretary and Trustee of the Group, and in the wider sphere of the RDA, it couldn’t be done without the support of the marvellous volunteers.

Showjumping: On 23 July 2024 Pat Steven, Coach was awarded the Level 3 Showjumping Coach Certificate.

## **PARTICIPANTS:**

The Term started with the very sad news that Denby had passed away. Denby was the quintessential RDA pony. He was everybody’s favourite, but even Denby could read people and be stubborn at times! Ruddington will miss him so much. RIP old man.

At the beginning of the Summer Term six riders returned, namely, Darcey, Fletcher, Marcey Grace, Max, Rwa and Willow. For the whole term the children rode Hilary, Strathwillan and Lorna.

The Teddy Bears’ Picnic was held on Thursday 27 June 2024 when the volunteers very kindly provided the food for all the children and helpers.

On 4 July 2024 presentations were made by the Chair, Jane Harris, as follows:

The Gold Gallagher Award was presented to Max Kennedy

The Diana Haddon Award was presented to Fletcher Thorsby

Proficiency Certificates Grade 1 Riding and Grade 1 Horse Care to all riders.

The school made changes to the children riding with us and so we started the Winter Term 2024 on 12 September 2024 with new riders Angel, Kiera, Manha, Arya, Isla and Wiktor.

On Thursday 5 December 2024 because the children were unable to come to Meadow School of Riding the volunteers visited Nethergate Academy and trained the children in horse care. Ruddington transported the equipment used in the visit from Normanton. The volunteers who made the excursion were Denise Ward, Elaine Swift, Jane Harris, Sara Hickman, Tracy Madgwick and Pat Steven.

The Winter Term ended on Thursday 12 December 2024 with a visit from Santa (aka Professor Michael Steven) who gave all the children a selection box of chocolates with help from Cllr Debbie Mason, ex-Mayor of Rushcliffe.

The Spring Term started on 16 January 2025 and all six children attended the sessions at Meadow School of Riding and continued to ride Strathwillan, Hilary and Lorna. The term ended on 3 April 2024 with Easter games and presentation of Easter eggs to the riders.

## **FUNDRAISING:**

Hickling Scarecrow Festival 2024: The Coach, Pat Steven, attended the Hickling Scarecrow Committee Awards Evening held on 24 November 2024 where she was presented with a donation of £100.00. Pat thanked the Committee for their generous support.
