Growing Mansfieldprovide a structure and framework to work with

Growing Mansfield continues to work across local community allotments
with groups of vulnerable people, including parents and children engaging
them both as volunteers, and beneficiaries.
Growing Mansfield has run several schemes to enable local residents to
obtain and use fresh produce grown on these allotments. These include
crop drops, taking produce directly to where is needed, such as food
banks at local schools.
The project has engaged with groups from all sectors of the community,
from small children through to teenagers and young people attending a
college course. Our project continues to work with young adults who are
struggling with addiction and homelessness, and older people who may be
isolated and in need of support.
Growing Mansfield is also continuing to support a number of volunteers to
gain skills and confidence, and to engage with other local horticulture
projects, thus furthering their personal development and learning.

Amanda Fisher with the help from John, and an ever increasing team of
willing volunteers, run this community project (Northfield Allotment) with
incredible hard work and dedication. Numbers have increased on this site.
Since we completed a very positive pilot project in 2024 with Yeoman Park
School we are now working alongside the School delivering an hour a
week session to a group of 6 teenagers with learning disabilities they have
been learning about seed sowing Planting and the horticultural
environment.
Northfield Avenue and its volunteers has continued to build on it’s success
and provides the local community with a focal point and safe haven with
somewhere they can come and chat, through these conversations
Amanda has also been able to signpost them to other organisations for
help or support.

We are a member of the Northfield Avenue Community Allotment Association building lots of relationships with other Allotment holders, swapping plants and advice.

A testimonial from a Volunteer,

I am 30 yrs old and have been attending this project for 2 years, my confidence has improves along with my mental health, I have a learning disability, but the support I get from Amanda and the rest of the volunteers helps me. I enjoy all the jobs we are given but especially I love helping out selling plants, and meeting new people.

We have now taken over another Site in Bull farm where we will be working closely with Crescent Primary Food bank, we will be delivering fresh produce to the school once a week. We have 7 volunteers attending a 2 hour session per week.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

Northfield Avenue Community Allotments continues to work with a local child minding service who attend the project twice weekly.

Attendees, with support from our project lead have developed and grown their own vegetables on site and taken produce away to cook and eat. 5 of our volunteers are now confident in growing there our produce at home.

Northfield Avenue have had 2,778 visits up on last year by 1,191 they now average between 20 to 25 people per session which is an increase on last year.

Local residents who come to site give a small donation for vegetable plants to grow produce at home, and to seek advice on vegetable growing.

Northfield Avenue have run a pumpkin competition where children from the community have sown pumpkin seeds that have then been grown on site, once ready for picking they have taken them home and carved them and then brought them back to site.

Northfield continue to offer open access to free produce collection where residents collect fresh produce and we continue to encourage local residents to take part in site walks – which has enhanced their health and wellbeing We are now open 3 mornings a week to help with the demand from volunteers wanting to join in the activities with children on Saturdays.

Northfield Avenue community allotment in cooperation with Mansfield District Council, has now been extended to include 50% more land Links with……… “The Explorers” a local childminding service Framework Green Social Prescribers

For the public benefit - the development of community allotments and local food growing, for the advancement of community education, citizenship and community development, Growing Mansfield will also work for the relief of poverty and the assistance of people in need, in the Mansfield district by empowering residents to grow food, and to distribute locally grown produce to people in need.
